Special trip with my mom.
The position, the rooms and the kindness of the persons working there did make it a special trip. If you are not looking for the usual hotel but for a particular one, this could be it. We had a room with a wonderful patio where we were served breakfast for both of the mornings. Delicious Italian taste. Thank you Locanda and hope to see U soon

The hotel is well located close to the Duomo and with good bars and restaurants in proximity. The main selling point is the lovely private terraces attached to individual rooms that would be a big plus if you are spending any time in Milan. In addition, there is good free wifi throughout (including on the aforementioned terraces) and a pc available for guest use in the lounge.

Otherwise, however, rooms are fairly basic and feel a bit like a cheaper hotel that has been given a paint job, some well placed orchids and a price increase. For the rest, Furniture is functional, the bedside light is likely to fall off the wall when you reach for the light switch in the dark, there was a large /old crack in the bathroom sink and "toiletries" comprised a value size johnsons baby shampoo. Beds and pillows are also on the hard side. Rooms sre definitely not as nice as the website photos would suggest.

Management attitude also reflects that of a cheaper establishment. They do not leave air-con controls in the rooms (to stop guests wasting electricity by being able to use the air con if required?) and their attitude to this relatively minor complaint came across as boredom with fussy tourists. Perhaps they're in the wrong business!

Not bad value if you can get at a discounted price but 200 eur plus is a less good deal.

Good: fantastic central location, secure, friendly staff, nice furnishings in room, lovely terrace, free wireless internet.
Less than ideal: No breakfast provided (in direct contrast to all those prior reviews...), no dresser, no bedside table. Noisy (corridor and other rooms could be heard).
At E.150-200/nt I would consider this a reasonable value in a city like Milan, but we paid more than E.250/nt, and no breakfast. We traveled in Italy for about 6 weeks in total this year and I would call this an average hotel. At this price it would have been nice to see some treats (eg. turndown service, bathrobes, maybe even a bathtub), but nothing like that offered. Compared to what I was led to expect by TripAdvisor reviews, guidebooks and the website, it was a (mild) disappointment.
Surprises: Two guidebooks raved about the "beautiful books" in the hotel. There were the usual few left-behind books in various languages and some old telephone books in the corridor, no books at all in our room or in the common sitting room. Also the guidebooks mentioned a bar, roomservice and breakfast in bed... none of which seemed to exist. Has the hotel changed format or ownership lately?

Loved this hotel in Milan! Located in a quiet street, somewhere between the Duomo and Castello, close to all main tourist attractions and shopping streets. We had a room with a terrace, which was big, sunny and full of flowers! Was great to have breakfast there and sip wine in the evening before going out for dinner. The breakfast was great: freshly pressed juices, fresh eggs, warm bread, strong Italian coffee, mmmm! I liked the service too; everyone was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed. ... more   less
