Book way in advance, don't drink or eat at the bar, don't forget your own wifi hotspot, and try their breakfast.

Room Tip: book in advance

The least expensive of the "big" hotels near the Fieramilano complex. Plenty of public transportation, 25 minutes all told from Duomo, 7 minutes from Bovisa/polytechnico where you can get the Malpensa Express (DON't use Linate Airport, closer to town but without a dedicated trainline- you would have to cross town in traffic. This said, do give yourself time to purchase tickets and find your way at Bovisa, where the Express stops only 2 or 3 times per hour). The hotel had a nice airy lobby and pleasant rooms, toilettries were nice, service was fine. Downsides: the towels were changed instantaneously although I did obey the instruction to hang them up if I wanted to help "save the Earth"; the non smoking corridor stank of chemical "ambiance" perfume (thankfully this did not penetrate the rooms); breakfast was completely uninspiring except for live manned espresso machine; staff always very long in answering phone when I called down from room; internet service ridiculously overpriced (but staff let me check email and print boarding pass behind the desk). I would recommend this for anyone able to get a special conference price.

Room Tip: Sun very hot on streetside. Ask for garden.

The hotel is very easy to find when walking from the train station & the staff are always on hand to help. We wanted to experience the city fully so walked everywhere, it would have been helpful to know that wlaking straight down the Via Simpone (spelling?) leads to the park, arch, castle & basicly the centre of Milan-amazing!!!

We had done alot of research prior to our trip and knew where we wanted to go, it would have been useful to have had a selection of leaflets though?

The room was clean, although a little cold at times (air con novices!!) Lovely bath and a fine place to rest our heads!

Room Tip: Mmmm...book well in advance!

The Italian rating system seems to be at flaw with the 4 stars this hotel carries. Overall the place is a noisy mess with inadequate staff, small poor rooms. A few examples:
* There is always a line at the reception (from 7AM until 9PM)
* The staff at reception does not know how to smile of make one feel welcome
* The corridors smell of toilet cleaner
* There is no proper blanket on the beds, just a sheet and a bed spread
* The mini bar carried room temperature drinks and no glasses were provided.
* The shower/bath did not provide enough warm water in the morning (i.e. cold splashes)
* One day the door of the room was left open (reception just listened and that was it, no apologies)
* The hotel has wireless but none of the phones and computers could connect to it
* The smoking room, the front "garden" are cleaned at best once a day and thus a filthy mess
* It looked like the smoking room with banners without any fire protection coating
* Asking for an umbrella when it rained resulted in some registration like taking out a rental car.
* The not so cosy bar area already closes at midnight
* At night one can hear all the doors open & close way down the corridor
* The elevators are shaky, do not respond to all the buttons and are inadequate for the amount of people
* One day the receptionist did not want to call a taxi because there were already some other people waiting for a taxi

I am sure I am forgetting a few things but to top it off; the pen I took with me from the room leaked a huge amount of ink on my jacket and sweater that day.

This hotel is located next to the old fairgrounds, somewhat far from the city center. The service personnel was helpful and friendly. The breakfast was standard.
The room was small, stuffy, and old. Bed was very hard. Wallpaper was dirty and falling off. Carpet was old and run-down. Walls were thin, and one could hear the neighbor very well. One could hear the noise of the street very clearly through the windows. Room was warm (sunshine) and AC did not work. Opening the window solved the problem, but it was then too loud to sleep. Bathroom was clean, functional, but old. All in all, a noisy, run-down hotel in need of serious renovation and in a bad location. There are certainly better choices in Milan.
