The site was gorgeous but I was frightened by all the beggars. I traveled with my mother and my daughter and because we were all girls, it seemed like we were harassed even more than usual by the venders and beggars. Please beware....

As at all tourist sites you get the regular annoying seller, these here were worse than most. Selling bracelets (twine) and being VERY pushy, and pushing seeds upon you to make the pigeons land on your arms for "a beautiful picture". I am sure a lot of people have an irrational fear of pigeons (I certainly do!) and this was not well received. As previously mentioned in another review, myself and my girlfriend sat for two hours in the square enjoying people watching and relaxing the sun! Would return. Nice gellato and drinks in the square also!

Full of shopping that most of us could never afford, even a Gucci cafe. It's the perfect place to soak up the scenery of Milan, enjoy the music from the local buskers and sit and people-watch for hours.

The square in itself is lovely, dominated by the Duomo, a huge gothic fantasy which took 600 years to build. On the right hand side you will find the Palazzo Ducale (Royal Palace), while the left hand side is dominated by the famous arcade Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is full of alta moda outlets and expensive restaurants.

Unfortunately, you have to be aware of lacernous individuals and keep your wits about you over here:

Scam 1: Beware of African immigrants approaching you. They will pretend they are friendly and ask where you are from, and they will say they have lots of friends there/love the place, wherever you tell them you're from. If you give them any attention, they will try to tie a 'friendship bracelet' a piece of coloured string, for which they will harass you for money. If you try to walk away, they may try to put it on your shoulder, just pretend you didnt notice and let it fall off you. Just say 'no grazie, lasciami stare' (no thanks, leave me be) and walk away. Do NOT try to be a good samaritan and stop them from doing that to others or they may get aggressive.

Scam 2: Beware people with corn. They will try to put it in your hand, at which point you will be surrounded by pigeons. Needless to say, you will be then pestered for money. Make sure you have your hands clenched in fists or that they are busy, e.g. with a camera and ignore the person.

This would be a lovely Square, were it not for the fast food joints around its perimeter and a plethora of scammers fishing out unwary tourists and their money. The Milan city council and the Guardia di Finanza should really do something about it.
