The P di Savoia is gorgeous, no question. The doors have intricate wood inlays on them. The walls have gold leaf all over the place. Its opulent bordering on the obsessive. But the carpets in my room were pretty thin and worn and the walls were practically made of paper. The staff did not seem to take much notice of the fact that I was staying for 5 days - no upgrade, no preferential treatment and reception and concierge were all surly, or polite at best. The room service and internet were ridiculously overpriced - 22 euros for a vegetable soup snack. The breakfast was pretty good however, and the staff down there were really enthusiastic and friendly. Its a quick couple of stops on the metro to the Duomo and short cab ride to Cadorna to catch the express train back to the airport.
