Arrived a few days prior to commencing a guided tour. We were allocated a small room at the rear of the hotel, with a very small bathroom and a virtually unusuable shower, it was so small you had almost to walk out to turn around. After one night we upgraded to a lake view room, and the extra $100.00 (Australian) per night was definately worth it. We had a very large room, plenty of storage, a nice bathroom, plus the marvellous lake views as our room faced the lake. The hotel is of the old style construction and realy looks the part. It services tour groups, so expect the dining room to be busy. Breakfast was excellent, although with knives and forks at one end of the buffet, only, you had to remember to get them first, or last, as the buffet was quite long. No real problem after the first morning. Reception staff were friendly, although it seemed some of the restaurant staff wanted you to get out of their way, rather than the other way around. There are nice grounds, with a very lareg, Roman style, swimming pool.
The village of Stresa is about ten minutes walk away and you can walk along the lake front to get there. Very attractive. During our six weeks trip, we found this hotel, and Stresa in general, one of our favoutite places.

Room tip: Spend the extra if staying a few nights and get a lake view room.

I stayed there for 2 nights and felt very safe. Rooms are very clean and the breakfast is amazing. Enjoyed a light supper and wine in the Bistro area. Staff are very accommodating and I would highly recommended this beautiful hotel.

Perhaps this hotel had some glory days - but that was in the past. Interestingly - as we were checking in - a gentleman was requesting a better room. His words " the room is not acceptable". He was right.

Cons:
1 Very small spartan rooms. We had a double bed room so there was some room to walk around the bed. However our travel mate was in a single and could lay in bed, spread their arms and touch both walls. That is small.
2 Shower small - I am petite and it was tight for me.
3 Poor lighting -.
4 Furniture not antique - just used and old.
5 Bath towels dingy and had stains. Had to ask for new towels which were about the same
6 Thin, worn out sheets that made me cringe to sleep on them.
7. Marginal toiletries - may want to bring your own.
8. Air con did not work
9 Seemed to be pretty walkable to most things.

Pros
1 Big pool
2 Breakfast with some hot items.
3 There is an elevator if you have mobility issues

Would not have picked this hotel but we were with a tour group so this was picked for us. On arrival to our room we tried to upgrade twice but was told that they were full. We briefly considered moving hotels but since we were there for only two nights decided against it.

When you enter this hotel, you know that you have entered an upscale accommodation of the past, with all the modern appointments. The gracious greeting from the staff give you a real welcome feeling. All rooms have a balcony, either looking directly at the Lake or the Mountains, each a stunning sight. The breakfast buffet was a cut above, and if you can’t find what you want , they will make it for you. Two swimming pools, indoors or out. Areas that you can sit in solitude or you can be in the mix of the guests. This is Hotel that we will be returning too!
