We just spent an epic three days and nights at Giuliano's place in Vernazza. This place is characterized by warmth and heart. Every detail, from stonework to furnishings communicates a love for life and an understanding of the needs of travellers. You can come here for privacy and adventure, and as well, be impacted by the beauty of a simpler way of life. It's honestly like a 'home away from home'. We stayed in Little Suite Sophia, but all 4 rooms/suites are well appointed. We especially enjoyed meeting others and sharing life with them on our shared terrace... and relaxing on lounge chairs, either in the sun or shade. We walked the trails hard, so this was a welcome oasis upon our return each day. Choose this place if you appreciate that you are sharing someone's beloved home. And if you do, you will leave impacted by the simple beauty of the Italian way of life.

My husband and I were lucky enough to snag a reservation here after being referred by friends who had stayed the year before. The owner, Giuliano, is such a sweetheart! He truly cares about the place as well as his guests. He built each residence himself and his dedication to the space shows in the craftsmanship of the rooms, and the attention to all the gardens surrounding the rooms! He even provides guests with refillable water bottles to use during their stay and plenty of guide books for suggestions on what to do in Cinque Terre. Also, his family basically runs the town - I would say the majority of the restaurants/bars are owned by a member of his family!

The camere is a short climb from the Vernazza train station (uphill and towards the signs going to the path to Corniglia). We were met at the station by Giuliano, who graciously carried my suitcase up the steps!! The views from the terraces are breathtaking!

We stayed in the Villa Sofina room, which is a separate villa that has its own private terrace and en suite bathroom, and is air conditioned! The bathrooms are stocked with your usual shampoo, condition, soap kits, and there is a hair dryer provided as well. The shower is separated by a curtain and has pretty good water pressure.

The camere (and really Cinque Terre itself) is set amongst the hills, so there are quite a number of steps to climb; this would not be the best place for anyone with any joint issues or injuries/disabilities that would make using stairs difficult. But that being said, if we ever find ourselves in Cinque Terre/Vernazza again, this would be the place we would go without hesitation!

Room Tip: The Villa Sofina has a private terrace and A/C and a great en suite bathroom!

Being at Giuliano's Camere is like walking into a postcard. So beautiful. So soulful. So relaxing. Giuliano has put his heart and soul into building these beautiful rooms and lush gardens - you feel it all around. The detail of his mason work and the strength of his spirit is everywhere. Blows my mind to think he brought each rock up the hill to his property, one by one to create his place. Guiliano is an artist - through and through. Even now as I am home, I can imagine his garden, sitting on his terrace in the quiet hours of the morning and looking out over the town...pure beauty and so inspiring. And Guiliano is now our friend - we so enjoyed his company- honest discussions, sharing stories, discussing life... He welcomed us into his home and into his world and we felt it. You have to really be a person who appreciates life and love and spirit to understand how special Giuliano and his place is - and if you are one of these people, you are in for something so magical and real no words can truly describe...keep the special vibe going...

Room Tip: all our absolutely beautiful give you access to the patio terraces - a slice of heaven!

My husband and I were fortunate to be able to stay with Guiliano once again. Guiliano thinks of everything. From explaining the Air conditioning, the towels for the beach, coffee, the refrigerator to keep your breakfast, cheese or bottle of wine, and fresh water. We chose the Little Suite Sofia this time with a shared terrace. The room was perfect.
We were once again surrounded by his beautiful garden. Guiliano came up at night to tend the garden and put on some wonderful Italian opera from his friend. The scene with a bottle of wine and cheese from the local store couldn't have been more perfect. The view of Vernazza is spectacular and Guiliano will meet you to help you with your luggage as there are some stairs. You lose yourself in the beauty of a beautiful stone building hand built by the master stone mason himself. The love and passion that Guiliano shares with you of his village and family is a true local experience that you will never forget.
If you truly want to embrace this lifestyle, you should plan at least 3 days. You will find yourself enjoying some wine and sharing the sunset with your neighbors or go down to the beach to enjoy a glass of the local sweet wine Sciacchetra . Take the time to enjoy an early morning coffee, watch a local tend his flower garden or vineyard, smell the lemon trees. Walk one of the tiny back streets into the village. You can't get lost.

If you take the time to get to know Guiliano and respect his home, he in turn will respect you. It's not about making money with Guiliano, it's all about respect for his home and village.
Breath deep and enjoy a memorable experience you will never forget.

Borrowing words from Simon Cowell of AMT, "I wasn't expecting this". This has to be one of the most charming places we have stayed in all of our trips to Italy and Europe. The room; Superb! The view; Fantastic! Complaints; None! Pricing; Perfect! Our room was spotless and very comfortable, with a very good bed I might add. There is a deck that you share with others, which we did on several occasions with snacks and some wonderful wine. One day when the sun decided to come out, we sat out on the deck for most of the day reading and watching whatever happened to be going on around us. The Camere Giuliano is at the end of a path, so you don't have anyone wandering through the place. It is quiet and peaceful.

Giuliano is a real character. I hope you can have as much fun engaging him in conversation as we did. He is gracious, very helpful, and very picky, and when you see this place, you will understand. I simply cannot wrap my mind around how many man-hours of work has gone into building this place. A true Italian craftsman. My hat is off to you Giuliano! We will without hesitation stay here again.
