Spend a week in the Cinque Terre. You need it to get over your own cultural differences and to become an exemplary advocate in the longevity enhancing "Mediterranean lifestyle." I am referring to the walking, azure waters, in addition to the food and drink. The first day might be a taste of reality, but after, between the views the hiking, food and wine you simply feel rejuvenated. The apartment Claudio suggested was very comfortable: clean, with a modestly stocked kitchen, and the view and patio were incredible. There are many restaurants that serve the same local specialties and only few places get more creative with their offerings, so I would suggest speaking with A Casa about wine tastings or a culinary class for adventure too. Claudio can also point you to the farmers market and specialty shops in La Spezia. In the evening take care not to have too good a time at Zio Bramante because you could get lost on your way home .... The train is a short ride to La Spezia and other neighboring destinations we enjoyed visiting: Levanto, La Spezia, Vernazza and Sarzana.

Room Tip: book a room uptown ( i mean as far elevated as you can get for the jaw-drop view)

My husband and I fell in love with Cinque Terre, and in particular with Manarola, when we first visited the area 6 years ago. This time we stayed seven nights in Manarola at Silvia 1 and it was perfect. The old charm of this historic village is present in every room. The apartment is large - 3 bedrooms, two sitting areas, well equipped kitchen, dining area, huge separate laundry room, charming entryway and a massive two-tiered rooftop patio with the most amazing views of the vineyards and water. The rooftop patio is fully furnished with lounge chairs, a swinging chair, tables and even an outdoor shower for cooling off on hot days. There is also a second bathroom adjacent to the patio. The apartment has retained all of it's old style charm with the exception of a modern bathroom. There is only one main road in Manarola and it goes from the water up to the parking area at the top of the village - about a 10 minute walk. This apartment is at the top of the town and a bit of a climb to reach it but it is definitely worth it!! Claudio manages this property as well as several others in the Cinque Terre area. He is fabulous to deal with - responds quickly to emails, very personable, fluent in English and has a wealth of knowledge about the area. We can't wait to return and will definitely stay at SIlvia 1.

This company has several apartments to rent in the Cinque Terre region in Italy. We stayed at the property, Lorena 2 in Riomaggiore. There are plenty of options in all of the towns depending on what you were looking for. We wanted a place with a balcony that could sleep three adult men. We just just that. It was a two level apartment right in the heart of Riomaggiore. We had a balcony overlooking the harbor and we each had our own room. And the price was better than most hotels and other apartments in the area.
+ Place also had free WiFi
- Make sure you figure out when and how you are going to meet landlord. Payphones are hard to find.

Room Tip: Look at the website to find the place that best suits you.

This is the fourth time we stay at a Casa 5 Terre, and is always a wonderful experience. This time we spent 6 nights at the Francesca apartment. This is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath spacious apartment, offering great views of the Manarola area. We had a terrace overlooking the town, the vineyards, and the ocean. Very clean, and includes a washing machine which was very handy. Claudio is a wonderful manager, and is always helpful and available to make suggestions and to help if needed. Thank you Claudio for your generosity and help, it is truly appreciated!!!! Can't wait to go back to Manarola.

Room Tip: Beware that Manarola is very hilly and this apartment requires a good climb from the center of town. Don't travel to this area with heavy luggage.

We stayed at Giorgio 1 on Manarola. It was a nice looking, comfortable room. The view of the terraces is absolutely gorgeous and it's very relaxing on the patio. It's a bit of a climb to get there, but well worth it.
