Our stay at Tra Santi e Poeti in Massimilliano's (Maxim's) home was beyond perfect. We had just spent a week in a very rustic villa in Tuscany and this was the soft landing we needed before returning home. We visited the apartment with our two children (we all live in Italy) and visiting mom. I have to say after staying in many apartments in Italy (and Europe), Tra Santi e Poeti is our new home away from home in Rome!
I love the location, steps away from many amazing shops and gourmet food stores (a treat in itself for our family) and also a brief 10 minute walk from the Vatican City it is in a great location. When taking in the other sites in Rome we did a day of the Hop on Hop off bus that you can catch just on the main road leading to St. Peter's square. There are also many restaurants near the apartment.
Maxim provided a chambelle cake for us upon arrival that satisfied our breakfast on the first day along with juices for the kids, water and also homemade limoncello. The apartment is well appointed in every way, and all of the extras are included: really nice towels, extra sheets, etc. We have not stayed in more comfortable beds away from home.
The themed rooms were great! The kids especially enjoyed their special room. We felt quite at home here.
My only criticism is the washing machine (lavatrice) in the kitchen for the clothes was difficult for me to figure out. I had wished instructions or a manual were included. I've used many italian and european washing machines but this one eluded me a bit. I only needed to wash one item so I was able to get by, but glad I didn't have much to do. On another note, the kitchen is long and narrow which makes cooking a challenge only if your family wants to be in the room with you when you are cooking. I had to bump kids out of their seats a few times making pasta al sugo, but it wasn't too inconvenient.
And there is the over-the-top hospitality of Massimilliano. He helped us get into a parking garage because we had a car-load of precious cargo - Tuscan wine. He arranged ahead a reservation at a nice garage, a bit of a walk away, but very safe and very clean. Open 24 hours per day, they let us take the car as we pleased and even washed our car for us during the stay. Also in our haste upon departure, we left a sack of dirty laundry behind the bathroom door. Massimilliano found it and sent it to us in the mail. It arrived just a day or two after we departed! I wanted to pay him for the inconvenience and the postage but he wouldn't hear of it!
We are already planning our next visit to Tra Santi e Poeti. We absolutely loved our time there and plan to stay again!
