We stayed for three nights and the men working were sweet and kind through all of our stay. They kept checking we had everything and helped us out with buses and places to go. Made our stay so much fun

This was by far the worst place I've ever stayed in. We had booked an en suite room. Stayed 3 nights here. First, it took us 40 minutes to look for this place because there were no markings and directions pointing to the hotel. Then we entered and the elevator was not working ! One man helped carry our luggage upstairs to the hostel. The woman at the reception (ALSA) was extremely RUDE ! and told us that the bathroom had a leak and so they couldn't give us a room and that we needed to shift to another place. We had booked and paid for the booking in advance!. We were shocked at how rude and impolite they were and then they discussed among themselves and had a heated argument. Seems like one of the staff members told her off. Finally they gave us a room ( Why couldn't they do so earlier !? )
The room was pathetic and old ! It seemed the sheets weren't fresh. We thought of moving out but everything else was booked. The lady was rude at all times and would not even greet us. She would make strange faces when we talked to her, making us feel very unwelcome. The area around is NOT NICE. Its right opposite the central train station (which is the ONLY plus point) but at night its not safe. The breakfast was awful ! One day there was no breakfast (which is kept in the room the night before) and when we asked her she said sorry the shops were closed and strangely after a while she came with the breakfast basket and rudely knocked on the door and stuffed it into our hands!! We were left shocked at her behaviour.
I would never recommend this place to anyone ! It really spoilt our time in Rome, which is a beautiful city.
Please do not stay here !

It is a really basic hostel. The neighborhood might be a little not nice at night and the kitchen being on a different set is really unconfortable. The room didn't have a way to lock it, the kitchen closes at 20:00 and you have to look for the manager in the morning just to get a spoon for breakfast. I really feel like I overpayed. The best thing here was the people I met.

Room Tip: They should paint the bedrooms because it gives the impresion of not caring having the walls so dirty. Also it is very unconfortable to hace to be asking to get the door open to get to the kitchen every single time. Aside from that, everything is fine.

Do not place a reservation here, it is a scam and the manager is sleezy and cost us a lot more money than we originally agreed upon. The place itself is nice and clean and the two staff members working their were friendly enough (though they didn’t speak very good English). The area outside of the hostel is really sketchy, and we didn’t feel safe coming and going late at night. As for the scam, my fiance and I booked this hostel a few weeks before our check in, received a confirmation email. Due to limited availability, we had to book the first two nights in the cheapest rooms and the third night in a more expensive room, though with our budget we would have preferred three nights in the dorm. When we arrived, the owner was frazzled and confused and kept insisting that we had called him and switched the reservation to being two nights in the expensive room and one in the cheaper room. We argued with him for a long time and showed him our confirmation email and our reservation payment we made to book it in advance. From what I could tell, he made a mistake and all of the cheap rooms were already filled for the first two nights, so he had to put us in the more expensive rooms. He kept insisting that we had called him, and then agreed to give us a discount for the two nights in the expensive room. The discount he offered was not nearly as low as the price for the cheaper room, and it fact he only applied a 10% discount and later recharged our 10% booking fee, so there was ultimately no discount. Because all other Hostels in Rome were booked and we didn't have much of a choice and had to accept the offer. But we spoke with him and made it very clear that after two nights in the discounted expensive room, we would then switch to the cheaper room, which he agreed to. On the second night, my fiance went to the front desk to ask which cheap room we would be moved to for the third night and the manager is nowhere to be found. Instead, one of the staff shows my fiance the bill which indicates that we were booked for a third night in the expensive room for $0. My fiance kept asking for clarification to ensure that it was accurate, and the guy kept insisting that it was, so we assumed that we were given our third night free as the discount for our earlier trouble, and we stayed in the expensive room one more night. When we are about to check out, the guy starts demanding a payment for our last night, and he is charging full price for the expensive room on the last night. We explained that we were shown a bill of $0, and if we had known that we would be charged the full price for the expensive room, we would have demanded the cheaper room as originally planned. After a great deal of arguing and showing them our original confirmation, and explaining how we were lied to through the whole process, the manager gives us a discount that amounts to 10 euro off of 190 euro for three nights, when our original reservation had us paying 130 euro. This manager is such a sleezeball. Do not give him your business or risk not having the room you reserved and being scammed out of a lot of money.

I stayed at Romangelo with a couple of friends for the weekend. Don't expect too much, as the rooms are kept really simple - but they are really clean! Staff is friendly, always around and really helpful!
The hostel is really central (maybe 5 minutes from the main train station Termini). You can even walk to sights like Colloseum or Forum Romanum in 15-20 minutes.
The only downside is, that a room shares one bathroom (toilet is in the bathroom) with 3-4 other rooms ... Also rooms on road-side can be pretty loud at night.
I can really recommend staying there if you want a cheap, clean place in the centre.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which doesn't the road.
