Il Fornaio is located on via dei Baullari very close to Campo dei Fiori, but really all you need to look for is the giant Mortadella hanging out of the front door, yes really go see it.

I have been coming to Il Fornaio for a while now, however only for one specific cookie and trust me if you go late odds are they will be sold out and you will be disappointed, but I'm telling you so, so take note.

What is said cookie? Lingue di Gatto or Cat's Toungue cookies. They are a very thin sugar-like cookie and come in a variety of chocolate chip, almond and plain. The consistency is so thin they are almost like a dessert chip but be careful it's easy to consume many and very quickly.

However, a little bag of these babies and a stroll around Rome is a nice way to spend the afternoon and take in the scenery.

Be aware they take cash only at Il Fornaio.

Stumbled (literally as had quite a few wines) on our way home from Campo de Fiori. Bought an assorted bag of amaretti, lemon, chocolate biscotti, pistachio etc. Not cheap at €17 but the best Italian biscuits I've ever had. Buy some!!

On the way back from Campo di Fiore. We came upon Il Fornaio. Warning, do not enter. You will buy something. If you can pass up the urge for a sandwich or pizza, you will definitely drool over the cookies and biscotti. I could have bought 2-3 kg, but instead fell for the lemon cream cups and fruit cups. Delicious. The cannoli and sfogliatelle were tempting also. But there claim to fame is the mortadella. I huge one is on display and they just hack it off and plop it between bread for the most marvelous mortadella you ever tasted. The prices are reasonable and service food. Enjoy.

We stopped here after dinner to pick up some pastries to eat with coffee the next day.
The apple strudel did not have the flakey crust that it should and the cherry torte was way too sweet.

Came here for some cookies and pastries. Nothing spectacular. Just average.

I would stop in if walking from Campo Di Fiori to Piazza Navona.
