Hotel was clean staff very friendly. Breakfast could have had ham or cheese on to take blandness away. Handy hotel out of main area. Tram at bottom of street to get to termini to go anywhere. Would go back if we were ever in Rome again.

Very friendly and helpful staff in this quaint hotel. Continental breakfast consisted of cereal, croissants, bread, cake, apple, toast in packets, tea/coffee/juice...ample portions to set you up for day. We (myself and 2 adult sons) had a room with balcony, wc/shower/bidet was more than adequate and served its purpose well. Beds comfortable. Hot water instantly. Air con worked fine, small fridge for drinks etc and a good free WiFi signal. Location within easy distance of metros/buses (72hr bus/metro pass proved invaluable) and Colosseum about 20 mins walk. Don’t be put off by first impressions of hotel. It’s a real gem of a place...would definitely return to Hotel Donatello. Many Thanks to the hardworking owners/staff.

Having read a few reviews prior to travelling, I must admit I was a bit wary of what to expect. However as this was our 4th year in a row visiting Rome then I should have had a little more faith.

Yes, the rooms are basic and the continental breakfast might not be to everyone’s satisfaction, but if you want five star bedrooms and breakfast then the answer is simple!

The room was clean with beds changed and fresh towels daily. Some of the rooms have balconies, great for early mornings and late nights. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked perfectly. When you’re out all day then it meets your needs perfectly!

Breakfast had fruit juice, tea, coffee, bread, croissants, cereal and fruit. Should meet most people’s choice of breakfast.

The staff on reception and in the breakfast area couldn’t do enough for you!

Location is a 20 minute stroll from the main tourist area, the hop on bus takes care of the rest for those who don’t fancy a lot of walking.

We’ve stayed in better hotels but this was probably our favourite in Rome so far.

Definitely recommend it!

Came home a week ago from this hotel, it was exactly what we thought it was going to be.
10 min walk from main train station
10 mins walk to underground station
People have commented on the breakfast, it is basic, 1 croissant, 1 bread roll, 1 Apple and cake, if you read the reviews you will know this so no surprises on arrival.
Staff welcoming and friendly.
Supermarket just down the road, cafes 2 mins walk away, you'll never go hungry.
Both slept well all 5 nights we stayed.

It’s a distance to the sites but there’s a metro nearby. Very small rooms. Breakfast is continental only. Staff are very friendly and helpful! I would prefer to be closer to main train station next time.
