The hotel is not in the most beautiful part of Roma, neither the most safe. I was told by friends to not walk alone in the area when sun goes down, but if you are in a business travel, or you commute by cabs, this hotel is really good. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and enough silent to permit you to sleep even above the crowded street.
70 Euros for a single room (with two single-bed).

Our experience at hotel Donatello was not the best. My wife and I are not complainers but when we checked into our room we just wanted a shower. Unfortunately the shower head was broken and water just went everywhere. We went to reception and the young man tried his best to fix it but was just getting wet. We told him it was ok and could it be fixed ASAP when they had a maintenance worker available. The following afternoon we politely spoke with the senior reception manager who immediately became angry and accused us of poor manners! He stated he had already upgraded our room to a superior suite (we were never told) and that we should put up with the shower. It did get fixed but for the rest of our stay the reception staff made us feel like the bad guys...very very rude! We have not experienced that bad of service before. Otherwise the rooms and hotel had a beautiful design but breakfast was average. Had to get this one of our chests!

Me and my wife just got back from Rome . We had 4 nights in Donatello and I can say that it was a nice experience. The room was not big but clean and cosy. Every day the maids are cleaning the rooms and put new towels. Also the staff is helpful and if you need some information (it depends if the person speaks english:))you just need to ask them and if they don't now it they will google it for you. About the location: it's not the best you can get in Rome but for the money you pay is perfect. The hotel is situated about 10 to 15 minutes away by walk to the Colesseo and the Termini station. Also infront of the hotel you can get a tram which goes to Ternmini station or you can walk about 5 min to the metro station (line A). But do not use the subway between 5pm-7pm (its like a columbian train).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

I stayed at Donatello for 4 nights in sept.2012, and i enjoyed a nice hotel. The room was not big, but big enough, and we had a small balcony facing the street. The staff was very serviceminded, and the hotel is placed just a 10 minutes walk from the rearest metrostation. But you can also just walk to many of the famous places, the colloseum is a 30 min walk.
I would like to visit the donatello again:)

Room Tip: I stayed at the 408, facing the street, so i could her a little traffic. But I enjoyed the view from the small balcony.

Location: I find it bizzare how some reviews have said this hotel is poorly located. It is a 20 minute walk to the Colosseum at most. The number 3 bus goes from a stop just around the corner from the hotel (2 minute walk), outside 'Bar Maggiore'. The number 3 takes you to the colleseum and historic centre in about 10 minutes. It also goes to Trastevere (get off just as it turns on to via trastevere in order to access the streets with restaurants).
Alternatively, Manzoni metro station is a 10 minute walk (walk down Via de Porta Maggiore and take a right when you get to viale Alessandro Manzoni and you will reach Manzoni metro).
Termini is a 15-20 minute walk - so if arriving from the airport it is within walking distance of the hotel. The best thing about the location is that it is 5 minutes walk from the Palazzo del Freddo G Fassi - the oldest Italian ice cream factory. 3 scoops of delicious ice cream for 2 euros, with an abundance of flavours to choose from, topped with fresh whipped cream! This makes the perfect post dinner treat!

Staff: Again I have seen reviews which say the staff were rude or unfriendly. This must have been a one off because all the staff were extremely helpful, polite and welcoming. If you ask for a restaurant recommendation they are obliging.

Breakfast: The small outdoor courtyard with water feature provides a comfortable, cool location for breakfast. Breakfast consists of a croissant, a bread roll, jam, honey and tea/coffee/cappuccino/hot chocolate - although not the most exciting breakfast it is satisfying and sufficient for breakfast. It would be nice if they provided a piece of fruit as an addition.

Room: The room was very basic but was clean and comfortable enough for the price paid. On a City Break you want to be out sightseeing rather than spending time in the room anyway so it was fit for purpose.

Value: For the price paid this was an ideal hotel. Well located, friendly staff and would stay there again.
