My wife and I typically seek out concierge recommendations whenever we travel to new locations, and the Boscolo Exedra Roma recommended La Matriciana among a couple other dinner locations. Coming from the Boscolo, we were were impressed. And now we are SO glad we dined there -- not once but twice! Great menu selection, fantastic food, excellent service from an attentive staff, a really nice atmosphere, and not expensive. We've dined around the world, and this quiet, unassuming restaurant is gem --- WELL worth a visit!

We found this after it was reviewed very highly on here as well as being a 2 minute walk from our hotel. My girlfriend had the lamb fettuccine which she thoroughly enjoyed, I opted for a amitriciana - that after a large quantity of mozzarella and tomato to start and parma ham and melon - we were not hungry. Service was excellent and it was fully booked (we got the lat table at 1900hrs). Well, well worth it and booking probably essential.

This restaurant was right next door to our hotel, so on the first night in Rome, we took the easy way out and went in. This restaurant is right across from the Opera House, so the prudent thing would be to have a reservation. we lucked out and got a table. The food, the service, the ambiance and the location all made for a wonderful evening, so wonderful that we went back three times. It's open for lunch and dinner, but not breakfast.

Atmosphere seemed nice from the outside and that attracted us to go in. They were not happy we ordered only one course. It took long time to prepare the food. They charged us for the bread for two people (which we didn't even ask for and didn't eat, they just put it on the table the second we finished ordering and is always free in every restaurant in Rome, particularly fine dining which this establishment claimed dos serve, and there was no olive oil or balsamic vinegar to dip into either). The food is okay, nothing really amazing in all honesty and pretty ordinary, hardly worth the price tag. I asked for a tea with milk, and they didn't bring any milk despite my reminding them. There was one good waiter who was quite hard-working, but he was overworked and couldn't be very attentive to us - the rest are unpleasant. It really wasn't a memorable experience at all, and the final bill left a sour taste in our mouths. If you are looking for fine dining there are far better places elsewhere in Rome.

The fettuccine with lamb sauce was mince something which was totally unexpected. When i was ordering this dish i was expecting pulled meat similar to what is in a ragout. The texture of mince meat with a long string pasta didnt seem right...

My partner had the pasta with mussels and the sauce was amazing. They used the mussel juices to make up the sauce, it was yellow and accompanied the mussels and past a very well.

Very different dishes but enjoyed the mussel pasta more.
