Regine is primarily a pizzeria. It has been open since the 1950s. It is on one of the busier streets in Salerno, away from the City Center, so it very much has a bustling neighborhood feel. There is seating outside on a sidewalk terrace, and inside. It is very casual - we were there two nights, and there were groups of teenagers, families, older people - all of them except us locals. The pizza is absolutely delicious. It comes in an oblong shape, served in long, shallow "crates". The crust was not too thick, not too thin and deliciously chewy on the edges. The restaurant also does a brisk carry-out business; they have a glass display case, as do many Neapolitan pizzerias, where their fried appetizers (arrancini and others), stuffed pizzas and slices are on display. We tried the arrancini and they were delicious - very lightly fried, very creamy risotto-like rice inside. This is a great place either to sit and linger for a while or to grab something to go.
