“If you want an Italian pizza in Madrid”
Review of Reginella

Reginella
Ranked #566 of 12,784 Restaurants in Madrid
Cuisines: Italian, Pizza
Description: Reginella born from the union of two Italian partners, Rome and Naples, whose point in common is a passion for Italian cuisine. After several years living in Madrid, we decided to undertake this project in order to share that love into our kitchen and thus shape an authentic Italian restaurant in the city center. Carpaccios, risottos, variety of combinations of pasta, fresh and dried, the best fish and meats cooked in typical Italian style, are some of the dishes that can be found in the Reginella restaurant. The service is impeccably furnished, making you feel at home in a cozy, family atmosphere. Our local stone and wood decor is dominated by a large glass front. The pizzas are made with the greatest care in our traditional Italian wood oven on the center of the restaurant. The dough is made daily by ourselves based on wheat flour double zero and oak wood and slow-cooked.

After a week of the usual tapas what we wanted was a decent italian pizza. We went well out of our way just to have it without being disappointed. And we weren't.
Atmosphere of the restaurant is not great as it's very old fashion, but who cares when you can have such a good meal?
And don't be scared of the prices, you get what you pay for. Pizzas not only are delicious but gigantic too.

Pasta was well prepared, right texture and good ingredients in preparation. Grilled veggies nice as well.
Service was awful, fell short of dishes being thrown at the table, waiters (but mainly the maitre) unattentive and literally looking the other way when speaking or being spoken too, borderline rude.
Prices on the high side without being outrageous.
A real pity, because the pasta was nice, but never ever coming back.

I received very good recommendations so my expectations were really high. The taste was good but nothing impressive. Like any other Italian restaurant. The service was very very good.

First impression was set by a waiter that didn't even bother to hide his disgust for us not speaking Spanish. Unfortunately, this happens quite often all around Madrid. There was only one English speaking staff out of four or five people working in the front of the house. Food:
- cheese and cold cuts platter was very little cheese, supermarket charcuterie and pretty stale bread;
- prawns and langoustine risotto - seafood came shells on and not cleaned; risotto was pretty cold, sticky and unseasoned;
- shellfish ravioli - undercooked, cold, underseasoned;
- veal Ossobucco (the veal cheeks were "out of season", but still on the menu) came with an empty bone. Shin was nicely cooked and seasoned, a lot of flavor for a piece of veal;
- pizza was probably the best dish of the order, nice dough recipe, beautifully cooked.
I ordered a glass of dry white wine, got something different.
Toilets few centimeters away from the kitchen doors, cheap and dirty curtains hiding the doors.
Will not be back, not a pizza eater, wouldn't recommend but for pizza, which anyway covers the biggest section in the menu.
