It feels kind of wrong to say so, but I visited only to see the Dali collection, and the Guernica and Picasso exhibition. That took about an hour, and I am not sure I could appriciate much more after that. It was a very mighty impression, thinking about all the history behind Guernica. The web site of the museum is very helpful for planning purposes.

Do not miss this Museum, there is plenty to see!A great collection of art. Be there a few minutes before the opening, the lines for the tickets are huge!

I did not find many interesting paintings as compared with El Prado. If you want to see Guernica, well this is the place. The most interesting were the Picasso's and Dali's paintings. I wont go back

The kids were a bit skeptical about the museum when we told us we were going there. But when we visited, they were very impressive. For some strange reason, modern art is always easier for Children to appreciate, even this time.

Many classical artists from the beginning of the 20th century are represented.

Picasso's Guernica is an experience of it's own.

The Reina Sofia is Spain's national museum for Modern Art. So, if you are in Madrid, and at all interested in or curious about Modern Art, and have some time, you would want to visit this museum. There are 2 buildings, the Nouvel and the Sabatini and the works are spread over the 2 buildings.
However, the website does provide detailed information on where each work is located. So, if you are short of time, you can make of list of what you really want to see, and plan your visit. Imo, the most important works, like Picasso's Guernica, and the works of Dali, Gris and Miro, are all on the 2nd Floor of Sabatini. This building is the one next to Hotel Mediodia (where we stayed). You can just take the lift up to the 2nd floor.
The website also gives details of prices for entry. For eg, online entry is 8 euros. However, over 65's are free, and so are under 18's and students below 25; teachers and journalists. You need to provide proof of status/age. There are also free times. Perhaps there may be lines then, though, so...
When we visited, one Friday morning, there was no queue. All the attendants were most helpful, and seemed happy to point us to the next item on our list. We had an enjoyable and interesting time!
The Reina Sofia has a very nice Cafe. Across the road, there are other (cheaper) cafes, as well as a bus stop.
