We have been visiting Tarragona frequently, sometimes twice a year, since 2005. We have stayed at the Hotel Lauria every time from 2006, because it has always been so comfortable and friendly.
The Lauria could not be in a better location, with easy access to the shops, and to many Roman sites such as the amphitheatre and the Forum. The new theatre is directly opposite on the other side of the Rambla Nova.
The program of refurbishment has been proceeding for a few years now, and must be close to completion. The upgrades to the rooms and public areas are excellent.
We were unable to have our usual room this time, but, thanks to our long-serving friend, José, in Reception, we had a super room with a sea view, overlooking the recently refurbished pool.
The buffet breakfast is, as usual, well-stocked and frequently overseen by another long-serving friend, Juan. The new coffee machine is great, once you work out how to get the best out of it.
Manager Eloy is friendly & helpful as ever, as are all the other Reception and cleaning staff.
This was the first time we had managed to get to Tarragona for the spectacular Easter parade. This is a "must see" event that we strongly recommend.

Room tip: Many rooms have sea views; some of those to the rear overlook the harbour

Its the third time that we have stayed here. Its on the Rambla Nova walking distance of everything. The entrance hall is superb in this old charming building. Its very clean and the staff are very helpful. They have just updated their old Internet system and its much better now. Lovely little pool and sunbeds for when the weather is good. My advice is not to book a Standard Room as they have a noisy AC system and no fridge. Go for one of the modernised rooms and apartments which are much better. I should imagine that we will be back in the future.

Room tip: Book a modernised room or apartment

Here again, this time with my wife, for two weeks in Tarragona, again in one of Lauria Apartments, this time a third-floor 2BR with terrace. Again . . . great location, great staff, great space, great value. Overlooking the sea, steps from the train station, the municipal market, the historical district, and any number of fine places to shop and dine. I will come again and can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else.

The entrance hall Looks nice. But thats it.
I ordered a deluxe room and it was just disgusting. I asked at the reception and it was confirmed that it really is a deluxe room. Look at the pics and decide yourself if this is okay.

Hola 189law,

I regret that your experience has not been satisfactory. A hotel accommodates many different guests, and the rooms are periodically checked to repair the damage that can be caused by time or customers. I do not know exactly in which room you stayed, but if it has not been reviewed, I’m sure that will be done shortly and everything that we have not observed during the day to day will be repaired.

In addition to the small daily repairs, we work every day to periodically make large renovations. Infact, during your stay you might have noticed that we are completely renovating some hotel rooms and are already planning upcoming renovations.

For example, and in reference to the toilet WC bins that you photographed, I can confirm that just two weeks ago the purchase of bins was made for the entire hotel and probably next week we will have received them and we will have changed them throughout the hotel.

Please accept my sincere apologies for not living up to your expectations.

Best regards

First let me comment on what others have said about this hotel. Yes, the beds are hard, but that's exactly why we booked it: we prefer a hard mattress to one that's so soft we have back pain in the morning. And yes, it's true that the room is minimally furnished, with not much place to put things in the bathroom, no mini-bar, and only one nightstand between the two separate beds. In addition, the safe doesn't use a combination, it uses a key that you have to get from reception and then carry around with you all the time and be responsible for!

All of that would have been irritating but acceptable, but the Wi-Fi situation was truly aggravating. The speed and signal strength was fine; it was the logging on that was exasperating. Every time your phone, tablet or laptop goes into sleep mode, you have to log on again! Even worse, they send the internet signal through Facebook, so you either have to accept Facebook storing cookies and trackers on your devices, or you have to click further and select the "Accept only essential cookies" option. I must have logged on 50 times in two days, using the whole procedure that I listed above each time.

Yes, the location is superb, but the hotel obviously has decided to do everything else the cheapest way possible.

Hello YanksAbroad,

Thank you for your comments and take the time to explain your experience at Hotel Lauria.

First, I want to clarify that we do not intend to be a luxury establishment in Tarragona. Our establishment seeks to offer all the necessary items to have a good stay in Tarragona with an affordable price. We do not offer rooms with luxurious details or large spaces; we offer functional and practical comfortable rooms to stay while enjoying the city of Tarragona.

You've focused on mattresses and Wi-Fi. About mattresses just clarify that it is a complicated issue since each person has specific needs to sleep and we can not meet all those needs. It is true that our mattresses tend to be firm because it is what most customers request although it is true that it is not good for all people.

As far as Wi-Fi is concerned, tell you that it is a security issue. The hotel's Wi-Fi Network is for all guests and if certain security measures were not applied it would be a vulnerable network. The fact that their devices disconnect from the network when not in use means that no one can connect through the hotel's Wi-Fi network to their devices. As far as the hotel's Facebook page is concerned, confirm that it is something that opens automatically but it is not necessary to do anything, if you are not interested you just must close it, it is not necessary to do nothing with the cookies or anything else. Close the website that has been opened and you can already enjoy the Wi-Fi normally, it is not necessary to accept any cookie, it’s made so that no one rubs your devices.

I'm sorry that your experience with Wi-Fi hasn't been positive but it's probably the safest you've ever had in a public establishment like a hotel.

Thanks again for your comments.

Great regards!
