They were not even trying

I can easily forgive that the hotel needs a fair bit of cosmetic maintenance (see pictures of a few items) but the fact it felt physically unsafe wasn’t acceptable.

The hotel uses a motion detector system to turn on hallway lights. Unfortunately, it’s not configured well. The dark picture below is my first two steps into the hallway (from either direction). The picture of the staircase was lightened automatically by my iPhone.

And while it’s likely the city rather than the hotel that created the problem, there is a curb that is invisible to those of us with depth perception struggled (see grey stone picture). The two parts are a step of three inches. Tape (yellow or reflective) would really help.

The breakfast was “meh”, they use only half the room (making it feel crowded), and the towels they insist on leaving take up the entire area by the sink.

The person who was the Front Desk manager said that they were aware. (I’d asked to speak to the hotel manager but he refused to check.) I’d said I felt the problems deserved a one-star review. He told me I was wrong! No sense he cared at all (perhaps because I asked to speak in English and subtlety is English is tough.) He did have a safety light turned on in my hallway (which did help though it buzzed all the time).

So three stars but I doubt I’d return.

Omg I am so disappointed. I stayed at this Hotel for several times in the past. I had never an issue but this time it was a disaster. We are talking about a 4 star Hotel so expectations are quite high. The room we got on the second floor was dirty, the bathroom filthy and the walls in the bathroom wet and muddy. Furthermore on August 21st at the evening the elevator was out of service. My partner has a severe leg injury and cannot use the scales for multiple reasons. From a 4 star Hotel you would expect that this issue could be resolved in a couple of hours…. Unfortunately it is not like that. If I give 2 stars this is only thanks to the front office staff. The girls were so friendly and helpful. The Hotel itself needs some serious restructuring works to be carried out. At the moment 4 stars are not justified

Hotel in Great City centre location. Easy walking to all amenities and sights.
Good room, bed, shower.
Hotel advertised on website and with Jet2 there was a pool. That was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. However, on arrival we asked stout the facilities to be told no pool. It was closed in lock down and not re-opened. Very disappointed

Room tip: Disappointed no pool that is advertised

The hotel is advertised as cyclist friendly and this is certainly true. They offer a secure bike storage area but this is located in the basement down a flight of stairs that is difficult to navigate in cleats. The storage room has a range of tools for emergencies. There is a pool in the bike room but it was empty.

The rooms are good and clean and had everything we needed with the exception of milk for coffee. All a bit odd.

The breakfast was great and the coffee bar served the most amazing coffee. The hotel itself is located in a really central area which may be an issue if you have a car. We arrived by train and it was perfect.

Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Ciutat Girona on 14 April 2023. We were charged 174.64 Euros for a one night stay. This did not INCLUDE BREAKFAST in a room without a balcony. We had a drink in the hotel bar We wanted to go to our room to freshen up for the evening. The bar was left unattended for 10 minutes so we could not pay. After waiting we went to our room (405} to freshen up for the evening.. We had a phone call to the room after around 15 minutes accusing us off trying to get away with not paying. THE BAR HAD BEEN LEFT UNATTENDED..i do not take kindly to such accusations. The hotel bar was closed when we returned a little after 10 p.m. and we had to make do with what the receptionist could provide in between her other duties. We were on holiday and the whole experience at the bar left a lot to be desired. The air conditioning was defective so we had to have to the window of the room open because the room was so hot. Of course, deliveries to local businesses made sleep impossible as the night progressed. The television remote control did not work so there was basically no TV. The flooring at the entrance to the bath room was breaking up and not to an acceptable standard. And the final insult was that we were charged for water from the mini bar! We have stayed at the Ciutat before but this will be the last time. And I reiterate that we paid 174.64 Euros for this experience.
