Five Star Hotel with Five Star Service

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Nov 2024
My wife and I spent five days at Hotel Palau Fugit late October. I discovered this gem on Trip Advisor. Situated in the heart of Girona's old town, the hotel was originally an 18th century baroque palace that has been renovated. The property is a stunning, creative marriage of contemporary and baroque architecture providing so many unique spaces throughout the hotel from the rooftop garden, the various guest rooms, to the hotel entrance and lobby bar. Our room was quiet, well appointed, exceptionally comfortable, and spotlessly clean, with large windows providing views of the tranquil inner courtyard and fountain. The hotel provides delicious breakfasts with fresh baked breads and regional food selections. My only recommendation is to upgrade the coffee provided. While I do not drink coffee, I noted that a few guests, my wife included did not like the French press coffee. We had three superb dinners at Casa Heras, the hotel's restaurant, which serves gourmet quality, seasonal, regional cuisine. What most distinguishes Hotel Palau is the excellent, consistently courteous service that is provided from reception staff, through housekeeping to the restaurant and bar. We look forward to returning to Hotel Palau Fugit on our next trip to Girona.

We stayed 5 nights in one of the balcony rooms on the third floor, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent for those who wish to stay in the historic area with lots of restaurants within a few blocks walk.

Our interactions with the front desk were also great.

The common areas were very well taken care of and attractive. The bar in the lobby (low key and well isolated from the rooms so that any sound is not an issue for guests) was popular with both guests and others.

Breakfast was included in our rate but with so many options outside the hotel we only had breakfast there once. The unique La Fabrica became our favorite for a healthy breakfast.

The time we were there, mid-October, allowed us to keep our door to the balcony open all night long - the fresh air was pleasant and even though the hotel is in an active part of town, the only sound we heard all night was that of the church bells.
Note that the balcony room is uncovered by a roof and not useful if there is rain (their was rain before we came and it took a day for the balcony furniture and rug to dry out).

Our room was very quiet. This is because the balcony rooms are facing the beautiful and green back courtyard and the others guests were also quiet. I can imagine if there was a loud guest at the time, the noise would have carried into our room. Also, we did not check out the rooms facing the street so I cannot speak to the level of noise guest could experience in those rooms, however the hotel is renovated with very tight windows so possibly they would block out sound even in the front rooms.

This is a charming hotel in the old town. The decor is tasteful and sympathetic to the wonderful old building.
Staff are without exception helpful friendly and welcoming. Breakfasts are extremely generous consisting of acold selection and a hot made to order dish. This is served at your table to no queueing for a buffet. Meals were delicious and nicely presented. My room was quiet and very comfortable though possibly lacking privacy for friends to share. The outdoor pool is ina shady courtyard and the roof top terrace is comfortable and sunny ! All in all a delightful stay.

Room tip: Parking will be limited to cars parks outside the old town cobbled streets.

We just spend 5 nights in the beautiful city of Girona and stayed at Palau Fugit hotel. Our room was the terrace one in the 3 rd floor and was very comfortable in size and decor. All the hotel has been remodeled to perfection and just opened a year ago. The bed mattress and sheets are extremely good quality. They have a very good pillow menu that was hard to find in other hotels. The breakfast included was very good quality and well executed. The service was very good in general but need more info in tips for good restaurants. The hotel has a lobby open roof that if it rains gets all wet which was a negative.
Don’t leave without trying a good massage and use of their spa pool!

Room tip: Parking is a challenge . Only pedestrian area.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We are currently on our last day and frankly, we could stay here for much longer...this hotel is a joy to stay at!
The newly modernised palacio has been designed with a taste and finished to a high quality. From furniture to textiles to plates and glasses.
Staff, kudos to them all, are friendly, welcoming and professional. Nothing is too much...just ask!
If you can, choose rooms facing the internal garden courtyard...its a little oasis. We absolutely love it!
Email the hotel ahead of your stay to book the 1 hr slot for the internal pool/ relax area. We really chilled there.
Food and drinks are off a great quality here and very reasonably priced.
My suggestion for improvement would be to have amenities kit available either in room or reception.
Aside from this, we have just found our new fav hotel in Costa Brava.

A really welcoming stay. We had a midweek 2 night trip to Girona with our 2 young children and the hotel and staff were so friendly and hospitable to us. We enjoyed everything about our stay despite the unseasonable weather and loved all the little thoughtful touches throughout.

Room tip: Parking is available to be booked through the hotel but it is a 5-10 minute walk away. Parking outside to drop bags is an issue
