Immaculate as always

I have only good things to say about this hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean, excellent location, great food and finally friendly staff. Upon first arriving check in was fast and very efficient. Rooms are clean and modern. Breakfast has a large choice with both hot and cold options available. Staff really accommodating and helpful. Girona is a beautiful place and has so much to see. Would stay again at this hotel.

We stayed here for 4 days during our recent visit to Girona to take in the annual Festival of Flowers. The hotel is approximately a 10-12 minute walk from the bus / rail stations. It is modern and very centrally located being only a few minutes walk from Independence Square in the heart of the city.
Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Checking in / out was quick and efficient. All the various hotel personnel were friendly and very helpful.
There are many bars and restaurants located in immediate vicinity. Girona is a lovely city to visit more especially during the flower festival and this hotel is an ideal base. Highly recommended.

An all round good experience. Excellent breakfast, friendly staff and great location. Although the room was quite dark, it was quiet and comfortable. There were TV options in English. Clean and well appointed. Great shower and bathroom facilities. I was in the 4 star section, so don't know about the 3star part.

We visited during the Flower Festival. The hotel was a little less than what I expected, but we still had a nice stay. We thought that the new part was a bit more luxurious. However it was close to the square with nice little eateries and to the old town where most of the flower action was. The hotel was quite busy and since there was no concierge desk, we sometimes left after standing around for half an hour just to ask for directions or info. The room service menu was limited, and some dishes not available. No view from my room, just walls of another building. Nice outside terrace (no service) where we sometimes had a chat and a drink late afternoon. Breakfast was not lavish but acceptable. Fresh pastries and flap jacks was nice. A 10minute taxi ride to train station.

We booked the executive suite as a present for a just married couple to spend their wedding night in Girona. I have to say that both, we and they, received an excellent service. The hotel location is great, very central. The room was huge, nicely equipped, very comfortable and quiet. The commercial and reception team were so professional and service oriented that went beyond our expectations. They made everything easy to us. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to visit such a beautiful city as Girona.

First visit in Feb. 2019 was great. This time I was given a room with a small window but no daylight. I complained and got another one. The kettle didn‘t work, then the TV didn‘t work. Worst of all I had booked as a single person with a small dog (supposedly dog-friendly hotel) a room incl. breakfast and after arrival discovered by sheer chance that I wasn‘t allowed to leave the dog in the room alone. So how the hell do you get to eat the breakfast you‘ve paid for? Dogs are not allowed into restaurants and cafés in Girona, you have to sit outside. Fine if the weather is good, but it was cold and rainy. So how do you get to eat anything? Sandwich from a machine? Remember, you‘re not allowed to leave the dog in the room alone! The promised complementary glass of cava never materialised till I complained and the staff quickly became rude when I pressed my point. I had come to Girona to view some properties with a view to relocating here. I ended up cancelling all the viewings and ditching the idea of moving to a hostile pet environment. Never had problems like this anywhere else in Europe I‘ve been. Sadly proof once again that the Spanish are way behind other European countries.

HOTELS ULTONIA ... G, Gerente at Hotel Gran Ultonia, responded to this reviewResponded 6 May 2019

Dear Susan
Thank you very much for your comment, but I think you've put it in the wrong site. Your stay was at the Hotel Ultonia (3*) and this is the site for the Hotel Gran Ultonia (4*). Anyway, it will be a pleasure for me to answer you: First, allow me to apologize on behalf of all the hotel staff for any inconvenience you may have had during your stay. We always try to do our best and make our guests have a pleasant stay. If at any time we have not succeeded, I apologize.
About the rooms, they all have windows. All of them, although the orientation is not the same and this influences the clarity according to the daytime. It must also be said that the rainy and cloudy weather did not help much either. Fortunately, your request was accepted, and you were moved to another room (by the way, we have no record at the reception about the tv and kettle not working).
About pets, it is true that our policy is to accept them, but on the condition that they should not be left alone in the room. We usually inform about this point at check-in but it seems necessary to communicate it also in our online channels. We will do it promptly. In your case, I understand that it was a problem to travel alone but I must also tell you that the care of the dog is the responsibility of the owner, not the hotel. We can accept some flexibility, but we cannot allow the dog staying all afternoon alone in the room. I am sorry if this made you change your plans.
Finally, I can once again recommend you some restaurants in Girona that do admit dogs. If you need it for your next stay, do not hesitate to ask me or our staff at the front desk. Greetings E. Torres - Hotel Manager
