Good hotel and a great location for exploring Barcelona. "Everything" is within walking distance. 5-10 minutes walk to the sea.

Staff at the front desk are accommodating and helpful.

Rooms are clean and appear to be recently refurbished. Rooms are average in size for this price range. You could probably fit an extra bed and still have space to move around. There is a tub in the room.

There is a rooftop bar and pool area. The bar seems quite busy.

If spending time enjoying extended breakfasts with a large selection is your thing you should probably find a different location. Breakfast is served at the next door restaurant/bar and cost €10. I would rate this as OK, but nothing more.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Carrer de la Princesa are probably the noisiest, but we still found them OK.

The hotel is right around the corner from the Picasso Museum in the Gothic Quarter, which allows for late night exploring of food & drinks establishments without having to worry about a long trek back to the hotel. It also has a restaurant attached to it which plays live music some nights and which offers great cocktails. The room we had was on the smaller side but it was larger than a budget hotel. The view was into an alley which saw moderate foot traffic, so at night we heard some people stumbling around, but nothing that would have disrupted sleep. One of the best perks about the hotel is that they have a fridge on each floor stocked with bottled water! If you plan on walking around a lot or it's a hot day outside, that perk ends up saving you 10-20EUR a day, so loved having that there. The rooftop of the hotel also has a bar and restaurant, as well as a small pool with nice views of the city.

I really wanted to like this place - it is in a fantastic location, literally around the corner from the Picasso Museum. There are many restaurants and bars in the area, and many of the places we wanted to visit were in easy walking distance. (We think a mile or two is easy walking distance.) Coupled with the tourist bus tickets, we navigated all of Barcelona. Transportation from the airport could not hav been easier, with a bus that went directly from the terminal to Plaza de Catalunya, which is a ten minute walk to the hotel. The hotel provided free bottled water on each floor, which we really appreciated. The rooftop pool and bar were pleasant. While the pool was very small, the rooftop seating area and bar were spacious. The views were very nice from the roof.

As I say, I wanted to like this place, but the room itself was cell like. It was an interior room with the only window being into an interior space that appeared to house the hotel's duct work. This allowed for very little light, and resulted in a depressing, gray feel to the room. My husband and I would jokingly refer to returning to our "cell" at the end of our sightseeing day. The bed for 2 was actually two twin beds, made up separately and then pushed together. Even after we arrived and stated that we wanted one bed, he maid service continued to stubbornly make the bed up as two separate twin sized beds pushed together. The breakfast downstairs was only fair, with the coffee machine malfunctioning more often than not. The staff seemed unconcerned about the problem, although several customers did complain and ultimately they used the high tech espresso machine in the bar area to make us cafe con leche. (Why wasn't this offered before people got aggravated?) Barcelona came at the end of our trip and we had by then stayed in a number of other hotels, all offering fantastic breakfasts. Unfortunately, this substandard room did color my perception of Barcelona a bit - the dreariness of the room made Barcelona feel gray and dark to me. Fortunately, the weather was very nice and we were grateful to get out of the room in the morning to enjoy the sunshine.

This place is probably OK for a short stay, but I would not recommend it for a longer one. I would also strongly recommend that you request a room with an actual window.

Room Tip: Make sure to request a room with a window - don't let them stick you in one of the interior rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights so that we could visit the sights of Barcelona. We had a fab time. The hotel is very clean and modern. We could help ourselves to water which was in a fridge on every floor and this was free. The rooms do not have tea or coffee making facility which is shame as we all love a tea or coffee when we wake in the morning. The roof top bar is very nice and relaxing, Carlos the bar manager could of had a little help as he was busy and not able to keep up with the clean glasses. With no clean glasses this resulted in us having to have plastic glasses fir our 25euro bottle of wine which was not quiet acceptable. Overall a fab hotel to stay in, and is positioned great for all your sights.

We recently had a 3 night break at Hotel Ciutat and we had a great stay.

Firstly the hotel is in a fantastic location, with many great coffee shops, bars, and restaurants in walking distance. The hotel itself is very smart and modern, which continues into the rooms. Very spacious and comfortable with a good sized bathroom and a huge double shower. My only criticism of the room is that the bed was extremely uncomfortable - the mattress was solid.

In the hotel lobby, there is a fridge with unlimited free bottled water. This is an excellent touch that I have never seen before, one that more hotels should learn from.

On the roof there is a small pool with a big bar area. This offered some nice views. My only problem with the bar was the prices. The prices seemed to be more expensive for house drinks than we were in trendy bars nearby.

My final criticism is the left luggage area. It is in a room that seemed to be unsupervised, and could technically be accessed by any hotel guest who could go through your bags.

All in all, I was impressed by the hotel and would definitely recommend it for a short city break.
