The best of this stay, was the attention from personnel and the perfect location, as it is at 200 meters from the Plaza Cataluña. Besides that, I didn´t like it. Rooms are very small and in poor conditions. Extremely small bathrooms with old fixtures. Very noisy! The air conditioning didn´t work well. I do not recommend this hotel and the value you pay for it, is overpriced, as hotel´s condition is poor.

If you just need a bed and a shower then this hotel is fine. Location is excellent, close to Pl Catalunya and is kept very clean and is small and secure, but don't expect any extras whatsoever. You will even be charged to use the safe in your room! Staff answered our questions in a perfunctory manner but were very keen to sell us the city bus tour tickets.

On arriving at the Hotel by taxi (which had trouble finding it) we carried our luggage along a badly lit covered passageway, up a flight of stairs to the lift. The lift took us up one floor where we had to turn right and press a bell for the door to the reception to be opened.
We signed in and were shown our room (No 105) which is almost next to reception with only a WC in between. The room had what I would describe as a 3/4 size bed. The only window was two long opening windows each with four obscure glass panes none of which matched. These windows opened up to a very small courtyard which was covered over at roof level. The room was very small, in fact smaller than the cabin on the cruise ship we had just left. The bathroom was fine if a bit dated and of reasonable size.
I went to reception to ask if it was the only room available and was told it was and was also told that it was really a single room.
The Hotel has no bar or dining facilities.
As we were only booked for the night we decided to stick it out.
We booked this hotel for €82 a night through Gala Hotels whom I wrote to on our return, a few days later I received what they appeared to say was the final reply. It said that they had contacted the hotel who supplied the measurements of the bed. Further correspondence with Gala Hotels have not been answered.
Therefore I will not be using either Gala Hotels or Hotel Pelayo ever again

This hotel is in a good location for a quick walk to the Plaza Cataluyna. I found some of the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. Besides that, I was happy to leave this hotel after 5 nights. The guest rooms are located near the entrance door and main desk. That means constant noise. You hear whenever someone rings the bell to enter and whenever someone walks heavily along the wood floor of the hallways. You hear the TV in the lobby. You hear the opening and closing of doors. And you especially hear the loud conversations and laughing by the staff who begin their noises very early in the morning. Even with earplugs, it was impossible to get a decent sleep. For that, I wouldn't return nor recommend. Two important tips: Be careful if you use the A/C because it may drip water on anything you put underneath it. Keep your receipt handy if you get charged a deposit. On the day of checkout, you'll need to show it in order to prove you've already paid some of your total amount.

Stayed 4 nights in Hotel Pelayo with friend. 2 nights in a room down the hall from the reception. Small, quiet and clean. Changed to a bigger 3 bed room for the last two nights. More noisy as it faced the street, but still ok. Would recommend this hotel to visitors to Barcelona who wants a good hotel for a reasonable price. Nothing fancy, but very ok.
