We stayed here because our flight out of Barcelona was cancelled, so we needed a cheap room for another night. We booked it at the airport using a smartphone app, which didn't really allow us a proper look at the pics.

Our room was more of a store cupboard with a bed. There was a lot of noise from the rest of the block - the small window opened up to the centre 'core' of the building, facing all other windows. Sleep quality was really poor because of the noise (and we needed to have to window open for cooler air). The door handle kept falling off which effectively locked us out, although the door itself doesn't have a lock - the landlord gives you a padlock to close the door when you leave. The bathroom was grim, with no toilet paper and a dirty towel strewn across the floor.

Additionally, the landlord was quite rude to us for no apparent reason, especially since we saw him greet another guest very warmly. For example small things like handing over the padlock without actually looking at us, and giving us €7 change instead of the €8 we were owed (he didn't have enough spare change. It's only €1 but he didn't even apologise for short changing us - a business should have enough change to pay their customers!)

Finally, there was no fire alarm in our room, which is just a basic safety feature that shouldn't be missing. Sure, it's a cheap place to sleep (or at least try to sleep) in central Barcelona, but hostels around the world have improved, and unfortunately this is a very bad hostel standard (I have stayed in hostels which are both better and cheaper). Other reviews say the breakfast is good... we can't say as we didn't stay for it, we left as soon as we woke up!

The hostel was overbooked by the manager/owner of the hostel and this was not informed to us beforehand. Instead, when we reached the hostel, we were told that the hostel is overbooked and he would book another hostel for us. He did book another hostel for us online but that was far away. Overall a bad experience for us.

The hostel is situated in the city centre aside from the tourist district, though not too far from it.

There is not much public place in it, but every bed has at least one power outlet, so it is not needed.

It was cold in the hostel during my stay in the beginning of December, but I guess it's the case for 99% of Spain and Portugal hostels during this season.

Breakfast is simple, but good considering the price. It was ready at 5:30am when I was checking out.

If you feel like having a nice, enjoyable and cheap stay in the capital of Catalonia, this hostel is a right choice. Located just right at Gran Via can make your holiday time a bit noisy, but that's an expense of living in the centre. It is quite near to the city most famous places and to the beach. We highly recommend for passionate travelers.

I arrived at the hostal by 11:00pm, it's easy to locate bec. It's close to rocafort metro station (line 1 red) and it's along gran via les corts catalanes road. Actually, it's almost in the corner & the busy bar beside it's entrance makes it confusing. At the entrance I saw 2 asians ringin the bell & callin on the fone, I think they've been there waiting for 30 mins. Just like them I'm also tired from my flights & it's really disappointing to be there w/o any assurance whether somebody from the hostal will let us in or we'll just end up spending the night outside. Luckily, an old man who resides there allowed us to enter & upon reaching the hostels door on the ____ (I can't remember which floor!) We once again ring the bell & ring the fone, thank god after 10 mins & after disturbing our fellow asians from sleeping, they patiently opened the door & told us that the "24 hour reception" is not there! When the receptionist arrived after another 10 mins he then accompany to our room, the kitchen etc. He was very kind! The only thing I didn't like is by 12:30 midnight you can no longer hang on the salon to watch tv or just sit there.. you'll really feel like your young & at home.. telling you to go to bed bec. It's late jajaja the room has some lockers but you can't easily move bec. Of the luggages on the floor & besides each double-deck bed. It's a little noisy bec of the 24 hours cars & buses passing outside & the party people also but it's not a problem. The free breakfast is around 8am and It's so good coffeee, toast, jams, juices. Paying 12 € per night + free breakfast + centrally located & very accessable = that's great value! And it has free WIFI too! The only thing I didn't like is there is only 1 bathroom, and the toilet is also inside it so you really need to wait & fall in line. It is really like home there's shampoo & soaps, washing machine, dryer, detergent soap, softiner, etc
If I don't have enough budget... I will also go back here... and yes I can also recommend it too anybody else... enjoy your stay & feels at home!!!
