I booked this hostal in late June for my trip to Barcelona in late July and I chose the option which offered free cancellation. At that time they charged me one night for 37 Euro which I thought a temporary block in my credit card to reserve the booking.

Due to some change in my travel plan I had to cancel the reservation. However, I checked with my bank and was told that the hostal actually charged me and the transaction took place. There has been no refund notwithstanding I made the cancellation 2 weeks prior to the intended check-in date. It's been more than a month now since I made the cancellation.

I'm in touch with Venere team and they're on the case. It's kinda frustrating that such a simple process could take the hostal too long to sort out and I don't know when it will be done.

Gracias.

The biggest plus in this place are the people that work there. Very nice helpfull and correct. The little woman from housekeeping is so much fun. The rooms have a normal sice but they are very outdated, but then again you dont go on vacation to sit in your rooom all day so who cares.

Room Tip: Dont take a room on the street side in the summer. People are outside all night and the will wake you up.

We got a great room with bathroom and a little French balcony. It was very clean and fresh. We were expecting it to be noisy at night because of the location in the city but we were shocked by how little we could hear from the outside. Very freindly staff!! We will definitely go back here next time we visit Barcelona!

I chose this hotel because it seem to be close to barcelonetta beach. The price is definitely not worth it as there are other 3-4 star central hotels for the same price. you can always use the tube to go to the beach or anywhere, no reason to book this hotel. The beach is more than 20 minutes walk away anyway.

The main issue with this hotel is the treatment from the staff. I've never come across to worse service and attitude than this. The cleaner shout at us for no reason and the reception person told me to go away when i mentioned that the room didn't have a fan as indicated when i booked it. So i had to stay 4 nights in a room without a fan barely able to get sleep due to the heat. Not to mention that the bed mattress was as hard as a rock.
When booking the room it was mentioning and also showing that there is a ceiling fan. When arriving you are asked to pay in cash for the whole period of stay before you see the room, so you can't get refund.
Moreover the room was barely cleaned if at all while i was away. Overall its the worst place i've ever rented and fully regret it.

This was a wonderful find location-wise, you cannot find a better hotel for the price in this location! It’s full of character on a side street surrounded by some of the best bars and cafes. The gothic quarter is my favourite part of Barcelona and its not dirty or rough at all but more for the artist/music/hippie types perhaps, with graffiti and fun loving late nighters strolling about. I loved walking all the amazing little streets and having a hotel right in the middle of it.

I found the hotel VERY clean and actually very quiet and although its an older hotel, it has a lot of character with marble floors, giant mirrors but simple comfortable furnishings and old paintings from the 70s on the walls which I liked. A few minutes from Las Ramblas but very quiet area and 2 streets from the harbour too! It was very hot so we had two floor fans that were provided going the whole time. Nice old elevator too but easy access with steps. I never heard any other people in the hotel so it seemed well insulated to me.

Also had the best wifi connection I’ve experienced at a hotel in years, very fast and strong signal in your room which was very handy and not that easy to find in Spain.

We had an ensuite double which was perfect. I also checked out the sharing bathrooms nearby and they were super clean and centrally located in the hallways.

Ten minutes walk from two metro stations so easy to get around town! Hop on bus nearby too.

The only problem is the angry cleaning lady. She was very upset when we arrived 30 minutes before check in time and scolded us loudly in Spanish to go away and come back later. She seemed to be forever mopping the halls and muttering to herself psychotically. At first it was funny, but she was downright scary!! The second morning, she was banging on the door demanding to clean but we were still in bed, as it’s a very late night city, so I told her to come back on Sunday! She was nicer the third day and I was just about to forgive her, as I also saw her working the front desk night shift at 2am –but check out morning, she was a raging maniac again banging on the door several times way before 11am, and we stumbled out of the room with our bags and half dressed just to keep her quiet! Then we heard her cursing probably as we didn’t leave a tip! I’d love to stay there again but she’d have to have retired for me to return to this fabulously located budget hotel. Stay there if you get up early and won’t run into her!! Maybe she owns the place?!

PS. Barcelona seemed very safe with tons of police patrolling on every street but we did see one attempted robbery of a phone so keep your things hidden!

Room Tip: We had an inner room with little balcony but was super quiet.
