Hostal la torre is a budget alternative for traveling to Santander. It is located near the beach and has comfortable beds. It fits the basic needs and is therefore good for elderly people. For families and students I would not advice this hostel. The staff does not speak English, there is no patio for common activities, and the city center is aprox. 30 minutes walking.

We stayed here for two nights before driving down to Madrid and Alcaniz. The room was pleasant and with a bar at the foot of the stairs where we ate a simple breakfast next morning. There was a tremendous fiesta in town so we walked down to the seafront and found the start of the tapas 'sheds', 2 euros for tapas and a small beer. Further into town and we found the main celebrations, beer/tapas stalls and even a Rioja bar, my favourite Spanish red wine. An excellent fireworks display ended our evening. Santander was extremely difficult to navigate around and thank goodness for our trusty GPS.

I stayed here for 2 weeks earlier on in the year. It is a lovely place to stay. The owners are simply lovely, especially the female manager and housekeeper. She took care of my washing, and folded and dried my clothes and had them sitting on my bed for me on several occasions! The ensuite bathrooms are fantastic, and it is in a nice quiet part of Santander with a couple of bars and cafes near by. Also a Lupa (supermarket) is very near by, as well as the gorgeous beach and great eating places nearby. The only downside was the soundproofing, sometimes I could hear my neighbours talking in the next room (thin walls) but I travel with earplugs anyway and it wasn't their fault if there were noisy guests. You don't want to spend the whole time in the room anyway. I felt very safe here and would definitely return. Very kind family run hostel, and they also negotiated a good price for a longer stay.

We stayed at Hostal La Torre during August in Santander and the stay was great. The accomodations were fantastic. There was free wifi, cable TV and confortable beds. The price was great for the two weeks we were there. The owners were very nice. It was a small walk to the city center as well as the beach. There was several cafeteria's in the area to go to for breakfast and dinner. I would highly recommend Hostal La Torre for your stay in beautiful Santander, Spain.
