This was our third stay at the Tigaiga, staying for three nights this time. There is little to add to my last review, as we were pleased to find everything much the same!

Great room - Not especially large, but very functional, with everything well laid out.
Very clean.
Good wi-fi - Free, but you need to get a connection code from reception.
The only irritation we found is that there is still a bit of a complicated system for accessing the safe in the room - you have to get an activation code from reception and pay to use the safe.

Lovely pool.

The breakfast buffet is still good. The only minor criticism is that the freshly-squeezed juicing arrangements need a lot of manual input (not fully mechanised like some other hotels!) and this resulted in a bit of a queue at times. The alternative orange juice (from a jug) was not nice, although there were other types of juice on offer in jugs. Otherwise the breakfast was excellent.

Once again, we had booked bed & breakfast only, but chose to take all three of our evening meals in the hotel's a la carte restaurant (Restaurant Tinguaro). As before, we found this very good in terms of food quality, service and value. Actually, we ate on the terrace outside each evening. (It would be even better if this was designated non-smoking!)

Once again, all the staff we met were pleasant, and it is particularly nice that the members of the family who manage the hotel made a point of saying hello and asking us about our stay.

We spent 3 nights at Tigaiga before departing on a Windstar cruise. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with lovely gardens and pool area overlooking Puerto de la Cruz. The location is great. It is an easy walk down into Puerto de la Cruz but you are out of the bustle of the town. There is also a lovely park just across the street from the hotel with trails for walking/jogging.
The rooms were not fancy, but very adequate. We opted for a Tiede View room and enjoyed the balcony and views over the town and up to the mountain. One problem encountered by our friends who had a room further down the hall was that their balcony was over the outdoor patio/smoking area so they could not sit out there without smelling smoke. This was not an issue for us, however.
The staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly. They arranged for a rental car for us for a day so that we could visit Tiede National Park, which was a great outing.
We opted for a breakfast included room as we like to sample different restaurants for dinner. The breakfast was a huge buffet with everything one could want, including electric juice squeezers so you could fresh squeeze your own orange or grapefruit juice. There was a lovely covered patio so we enjoyed our breakfasts al fresco.
We did eat dinner at the hotel one night. There are two dinner restaurants, one for a la carte diners and one for the all-inclusive meal guests. We enjoyed our meal at the small a la carte restaurant. Food was quite good, although the ambiance was not special as the room did not take advantage of the outdoor views.
In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tigaiga and recommend it.

We have just returned from another visit to Puerto de la Cruz and this time an early reservation allowed us to stay at the venerable Hotel Tigaiga. In most guidebooks it is shortlisted and given favourable comments. It is not a luxury or five star hotel, but is is not far away (this also applies to the prices). The hotel dates back to 1958 (construction start) and much of the original architecture remains. In recent years the hotel has been thoroughly renovated and with grate taste. Our room (113) was facing south and for the first time I could take in the view of the Teide. The size of the room is adequate+ and the layout testifies to much thoughtful planning. The public spaces are extensive and the big subtropical garden is the gem of the hotel. Add to this a generous breakfast, an excellent restaurant and friendly and efficient staff. My only criticism is that the Wi-Fi which is not adequately dimensioned.

Room Tip: Rooms on th south side include view of the Teide. On clear days the balcony becomes rather hot.

We had lunch at this hotel a few years ago and decided to stay there for a week this time. The facilities are impeccable and first class and the services mirror this quality. nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the reception staff in particular were most impressive. Breakfasts were outstanding and we were amazed at the freshness and variety of fruit etc available. The evening procedure is a little more unusual - whilst they have a choice of offerings for starters, main and desert there is so much else on offer it is all a little confusing initially. People seem to be going back and forth to all the food tables according to their own preferences but no one leaves hungry or disatisfied. We enjoyed sampling the wine list but did have to reject one bottle of Canarian wine which seemed to be heavily rezinated. It was replaced with apologies and without question.

Room Tip: go for a room with a sea view.

Just back from our second stay at the Tigaiga. We were first there a year ago having decided to change from another hotel in Puerto de la Cruz which we had stayed in 6 times.
The Tigaiga is a lovely family run hote and the family - 2 sisters and a brother - are often in evidence. One of the hotel's main assets is its staff who are always very friendly - I don't think we ever stayed anywhere before with such friendly staff. The rooms are modern and well furnished with modern bathrooms with shower. We had a room with a view of Mount Teide although we didn't see much of the top of the mountain but that was the fault of the weather, not the hotel! We were on half board and enjoyed the extensive breakfast and the dinners which were mainly waiter service with a salad and fruit buffet. We like waiter service as it seems to make the dinner more of an occasion rather than a full buffet which is more like being in a cafeteria.
The hotel is set in a peaceful location in beautiful gardens and once again we did the garden tour which is very informative. The location is uphill from Puerto de la Cruz, easy going down but a bit hard work coming back up all those steps. We managed to stagger up most days but you can always get a taxi back if you don't feel so fit. If you don't want to go anywhere there is always a lovely place to sit in the garden and there are fabulous views from the pool area.
Lots of people seem to return to this hotel time and time again, some more than once a year. We met people we had seen last year - and I'm sure we'll be back again next year for a break from the cold English winter.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have good views. Taoro park view rooms get sun in the morning, Teide view rooms get sun in the afternoon.
