Hotel had a leak from the roof onto the main stairway, this was not attended to during the entire stay. Water also leaked into the main dining area, my wife had to go and change clothes because she sat on a cushion that was wet through. Rooms very tired and dated. Examples, air con unit was taped up to the wall, holes in the wall ,very old mattress on bed, old fashioned furniture. Worst aspect was the food, the simple way to put this is to say that it was not up to 5 star standard. How the Hotel can promote an "a la carte" menu completely baffles me. Its a good spot with staff that try very hard to make up for Hotel shortcomings but if you book and pay for 5 star then that is what you should get. Very unhappy with our stay and 100% spoilt our holiday.

This 'boutique' hotel markets itself as a 5 star property. In terms of cleanliness and exclusivity ( 14 rooms) this may well be true. It is located in a small residential urbanisation near the airport and is quiet apart from the yapping dogs of the local residents. The staff are very pleasant and work hard (see below), they are nearly all Italian and keen to make your stay memorable. So what is the problem:

1. Essentially Katerina and Luca run the place. As I say they work very hard but the hotel is woefully understaffed and nowhere near expectation for a 5 star hotel. There is no manager as such and at dinner times the atmosphere is frenetic as the two of them try to serve drinks in the bar, wait on tables and deal with other guest issues. When one had a night off a very pleasant Chinese lady was drafted in - no Spanish.

2. THE REAL ISSUE - FOOD.

Breakfast is OK, nothing out of the ordinary and predictable choice but dinner is poor and sometimes downright bizarre. Essentially the meal consists of three courses, three starters, two main courses - fish or meat, and a dessert, a choice of 4, three are the same every night. I ate a lot of fruit salad.

The food is British/German and almost English boarding house unimaginative, it has no resemblance to Spanish food. In a country where every bar can knock off a decent tapas, nothing like that can be found here. Forget amuse bouche, forget nibbles with your drinks (except a few Pringles if they remember) or indeed anything that isn't chicken or fish essentially with boiled potatoes or chips, which were cold. HIGHLIGHTS: the nights the items on the menu had no bearing on what we were served tagliatelle was tortellini, lamb chops = slices of lamb and entrecôte steak = duck!

One night was a buffet (remember 5 star) two containers, no chef to serve and a choice of chicken or salmon with boiled potatoes. Only problem one of the heaters under a container was broken so all the food was cold........nothing was done.

We liked Katernina and Luca but asked to see the manager about the food, there was no manager and we never saw anyone with responsibility, no chef, no manager.

I would say this was the worst food we have experienced in Spanish hotels of this supposed standard .

We also decided not to pay the 50€ deposit they wanted for us to borrow two bicycles - perhaps they thought we going to cycle off the island on them. Nice pool - but the jacuzzi never worked.

In short this could be a wonderful hotel but the food really really lets it down.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony as ground floor seemed rather dark. Ther is no lift and no one to help with your luggage.

Dear Lain M,
Thank you for your opinion. Unfortunately I can not agree with you about the presence of manager or chef. I am everyday at the hotel and Gian Luca never told me you wanted to talk to you. I know you mentioned once about the lamb, but never asked to talk to the manager. The chef was everynihght in the dining room, Specially the buffet night. He is english and you could have talked to him.
All in all we will work to improve all the issues raised
Kind regards,
Fernando

We came here because the VIK hotel in Puerto del Carmen had overbooked. There are only 14 rooms around a pool and courtyard. The rooms are well appointed and spacious with all facilities. The restaurant served good food at both breakfast and dinner. The wine list includes a choice of Lanzarote wines and the staff know their products

We stayed here as our base for a walking holiday in Lanzarote and it’s a lovely, lovely hotel to come back to after a day exploring the natural beauty of the island. We had a superior room on the first floor and a large balcony overlooking the pool and gardens. It was bliss to sit there in the sunshine and read a book. Our room was large and very comfortable with everything you’d need - a good bathroom, minibar and very comfy bed. It’s a very quiet hotel indeed and beautiful in all its public spaces. We enjoyed going for an aperitif before dinner and choosing from the extensive drinks menu. Particularly liked the Negroni! The food was excellent we thought. There’s a choice on all 3 courses for the meat and fish eaters and as vegetarians we got a daily menu which was fantastic. Really imaginative veggie dishes which were very flavourful and filling - we were impressed. Breakfast is a plentiful buffet and you can also order cooked items from the kitchen. The staff were friendly and efficient and the whole place spotlesslessly clean. Altogether an incredibly relaxing and lovely experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have lovely balconies.

We stayed here for a night when our flight home was delayed for 47 hours for bad weather. We booked the room at 11pm on booking.com after we realised our flight wasn’t going and we followed the booking up with a quick phone call. The hotel very kindly kept reception open for us even though we didn’t arrive until midnight due to a huge queue at the airport for a taxi. We were very grateful and thankful for this!!!
The room was clean and comfortable. The pool area looked lovely. The hotel was in a quiet area in Arrecife. We had breakfast the next day included with the room.

Thank you for the review. It is an unfortunate reason why you visited Villa Vik, but we are happy to have helped you in such difficult situation. 47 hours are too many if you have no place to rest.
