We stayed for 2 nights - family with 2 teenagers. The house is everything you need and everything you didn’t know you needed. The owner greeted us on a hot day with an iced drink he had just made with lemons from his tree - then once we had settled took us on a free walking tour of the city! Fantastic service! He called us taxis when we needed and was there to help with anything. We drove to the house - You don’t need a car in Granada - the city is easy walking distance - and if you don’t want to walk uphill 15 mins to Alhambra a taxi is cheap so the car stayed parked the whole time. It was a little tricky driving to the house - the streets are MUCH narrower than what we are used to - OK for a small car.
Gorgeous property with wonderful views of the Sierra Nevada, situated a short walk from the town centre and a five/ten minute drive from Alhambra.
The host, Jorge, was wonderfully accommodating providing directions to the house (which can be tricky to get to by car) a walking tour of the city and his tapas recommendations and even booked us a cab to Alhambra (cheaper than the bus!) and gave us a few saplings from his pomegranate tree. The house was clean and tidy and Jorge readily provided things like extra pillows. It also offers parking but it should be noted that the roads leading up to the house (and in Granada in general) are ridiculously tight and narrow so driving can be tricky.
The house is located a five minute walk from a bakery and supermarket with other shops around ten minutes away, the wifi works well and some channels on the tv can be switched to an English audio track without too much difficulty.
In short the ideal location to experience Granada and the ideal host to provide guidance.
Jorge (the owner who resides in the top floor of the property) was a fantastic host and really made the difference for us - from v helpful directions (Granada is a driving nightmare!) and time taken to go round the property and explain what was what, to a quick tour of the main central area of Granada to help us orientate and get a sense of therein sights, etc. Jorge was also very helpful in letting us know local running routes - which for walking/ running is the river promenade/ path, just a few minutes from Carmen. The 'welcome gift' of a good bottle of wine, fruit, etc was also very welcome!
The property has a separate kitchen, lounge and two (three with the lounge) bedrooms (one double, one twin) in a 'farmhouse style' decoration (dark wood/ brass bathroom fixtures, etc) - so not modern, but all good quality, clean, etc. It was also a major bonus to be able to park the car in the yard for our stay - which had a BBQ, several tables and chairs and a great view of the Sierra Nevada. Carmen de la lana is also an easy walk into the main centre of Granada and (uphill) to the Alhambra - or the option of a 5-6 Euro taxi.
We stayed here for three nights - Jorge was there to greet us and gave us a very informative tour of the neighbourhood and then sent links to bars/cafes he recommended, nothing was too much trouble. The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed.
Thank you Jorge
Don't hesitate to book this accomodation if you have the opportunity! We were eleven persons staying at Jorge's house, having our erasmusreunion. He welcomed us in the best possible way and tried to make us feel at home and helped whenever he could. We knew the city already, but he offered us to do a citytour for free, so if you are looking for an interesting tour and, he's the guy you are looking for. He foresaw a welcome package with cookies, wine and fresh fruit. He explained us more details about the history of the house and of the city. The house is some twohundred years old and has been the property of Jorge's family since then. The house used to be an old woolfabric. Jorge is passionate about his house and proud of its heritage. He was able to explain us a lot of historic details and anecdotes about the house and its neighbourhood. Being a real Granaíno, he loves the city and doesn't hesitate to advice you about where to find the best tapas and to see the best historic places. Furthermore, we did a typical Spanish barbecue with him. He made sangria and helped us to look for the perfect meat. In short: a great host that takes your Granada experience to a whole other level.
The house itself is a great place to stay if you want to stay in Granada, located in the old Jewish quarter Realejo. You will be staying in the groundfloor of the appartment. The rooms, kitchen and bathroom offer a lot of comfort and are well equiped. If you are with the car, there's an option to park it on the terrace.
The best part of the house is undeniably the impressive terrace and the stunning view of the Sierra Nevada. A bakery and supermarket can be found within five minute walking distance. The house is located some ten to fifteen minutes walking from the city center. It is truly an idyllic place to stay.
Staying in a beautiful city like Granada is an experience in and of itself but it is Jorge and this house that has made our stay absolutely unforgetable.
