“a member of the family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

Owner Jose and his wife could not have been hospitable if we were family! After almost 5 weeks of travel through Spain and Morocco, Hostal Rodri offered the most comfortable bed, the cleanest room and the most helpful staff! Breakfast is on your own, but available steps away in Plaza Trinidad. Stay here!

It is hard to believe that the Hostal/Pension Rodri is 2 stars. We would give it at least 5.
When we arrived the manager /owner produced a map and proceeded to tell us absolutely everything we needed to know for our stay in Granada. Any questions we had he was able to answer. We used our map constantly for the time we were there and have kept it as a keepsake of all our memories of Granada.
When we had booked in we were shown to possibly the cleanest room we have encountered. The room was serviced every day and looked as lovely as the photos on the internet.
Just across from our room was a small patio with plants and a table and chairs.
The Rodri is located close to the old town centre, bus stops, supermarkets, shops and restaurants.
Even though we were on a room with a street outlook it was very quiet.
We found the built in nightlights on the lightswitches a bit bright at night. A good idea but with 6 or more in the room it meant that you couldn't get the room dark at night.
The Rodri would have to be the best value for money in Spain we think.

After reading earlier reviews we decided to risk booking the single room with a double bed for a couple of nights between Christmas and New Year. It was absolutely fine and mcuh better than many so called double rooms we've stayed in. Everything was spotless and I was frankly astounded by how helpful the hotel staff were. The hotel is just off a trendy square right in the heart of the city, really quiet but bang in the centre of all the action. I have never stayed in a city centre hotel that was better value for money

Great rooms, amazing service and awesome location...this is the best place I've stayed in Spain.
Plus, is great value for money as the room rates are very cheap for what you get at the hotel.

After fifteen years of not visiting western part of Europe, my impression of Europe is still remain as an expensive place to visit especially for the food and accomodation. That was right after my graduation and we have to stay in dormitary and catch the night train to save accomodation cost. After Morocco, we proceed to Spain and I kept telling my friend who has not really visited Europe before (other than Greece) do not expect too much on the accomodation.

Granada is our first stop in Europe and Spain. We took a taxi from train station to Hostal Rodri. The taxi fare is reasonable. It cost about 7 Euro. The taxi driver is very friendly even though we cannot really understand Spanish language. Jose (who is also one of the owner of the hotel) is on duty when we arrived. He is very friendly too. When Jose knew it is the first time we visit Granada, he gave us all the good tips by drawing the note and direction nicely on the map with different colours. There are a number of restaurants (with different price range), shopping street, sites and directions he drew on the map. It is so detailed and good until at one point we think he is proabably an author of travel guide book. We are very impressed with Jose.

The lobby is very neat. When we entered the room, it is even nicer. It is really very clean. We enjoy the feeling to walk on the floor without shoe because it is so smooth. The bathroom is unbeliavable clean, bright and comfortable. The bed and mattress is thick and soft. There is a big LCD TV with popular TV channel like CNN. Nice table lamp has been set up at each side of the bed. There is a balcony too. In addition of all these, there is a nice art painting hanging on the wall and elegant curtain at the drop down glasses of the balcony. With the affordable room rate (39 Euro including tax), it totally changed our mind set of Europe as an expensive destination.

Granada old town is not too big. Hostal Rodri is conveniently located in the central and near to all main site (including Alhambra - there is public transport to go there but we decided to walk from Hostal Rodri). Hostal Rodri is also near to the shopping street and numerous good restaurants.

We like Granada a lot as well as Hostal Rodri and Jose the owner. I and my friend has told each other we have to re-visit Granada. It is really one of the nicest place we have ever visited..

Note 1:
The restaurant tips given by Jose are good. We tried Los Diamantes II (tapas) at Navas Street. It is good and full of local people. We tried Restaurant La Bodega De Antonio at Jardines Street, it is good and cheap with big serving. The chocolate con churros of Churreria Cafeteria Alhambra at Pl. Bib-Rambla (a square behind the Cathedral) is a good place to try the churros (A popular spanish snack look like long and thick doughnut and normally dipped with chocolate).

Note 2:
I plan to post more information and photo about Granada and Hostal Rodri in near future. If you are interested, here is my travel blog - www.chonghui.net
