We liked everything about Solar Monte Claros! It has a really special atmosphere, decoration and views are amazing. It is beaceful, quiet place, where you can relax and have a good sleep. The owner Julio is superb: very helpful and genuinely friendly!

We stayed in Summeria which was a beautifully furnished room. The decor is gorgeous and the whole feel of the place is good for the soul. The plants make it even better. You get space privacy and a view of the Alhambra. You could not as for more.

Best part was the enormous bed 180 cm across and really comfortable.

Yes you need to walk uphill. But I am exceptionally unfit and managed just fine so do not let that put you off.

One thing to note is that it says here in Trip Advisor that Breakfast is included and Room service is available. Breakfast is not included in the sense you have to pay extra at a sweet looking cafe nearby. We did not try it as they were not very welcoming and seemed annoyed we arrived at 9:30. I then found out they open at 9:30 so perhaps they did not appreciate us turning up so punctually. They ignored us for 5 minutes after which we just decided to leave. Down the road are plenty of places to get breakfast for half the price anyway so would not spend €7,50.

As for room service I do not believe this is available.

Either way would very happily return.

This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. I expected a really nice place, but got more than I expected. A large room, spacious bathroom area with large counter tops, incredibly tasteful decoration, a terrace with a view of the Alhambra, a big bed raised high enough so that I did not feel as if I was getting out of bed near ground level, and tucked away up in the hilly area of the city with privacy and quiet surroundings. Lots of plants, flowers and vines, art work, tile floors, wood and wrought iron. The owner/staff were very helpful. Be prepared to walk up and down hills and streets in this area of the city, but well worth staying here. One of the highlight hotels of our trip to Spain.

We stayed in a room at the very top of the property which sits on a hill-side overlooking the Alhambra, The views really are breath-taking and watching the sun go down from the balcony was memorable. The bedroom is small but very comfortable and is beautifully presented. The apartment is on two levels and downstairs is a shower room, small kitchen and dining table with another balcony. The staff are very friendly and keen to assist with any requests and the property was very clean - the place is clearly loved.

In terms of location it is about a 20 minute walk to the main entrance to the Alhambra and less into the old town and the Plaza Nueva where there is a tourist information office.

Top tips - use the bus into and out of town; it is cheap, very regular and drops you at the end of the road.

I can't emphasise enough how special the view is; possible the best view of anywhere I have stayed.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in at the top had a fantastic view and a back door which made for less stair-climbing...
