Friendly staff make this busy hostel a great place to stay. Communal areas are good with 'The Roof Terrace' being a great social, early evening, place to be. Free Sangria @ 8pm and 3 euro evening meal at 9pm. Party people head into town when the bar closes at 11.00pm. The premises were clean and well maintained. Location is spot on, close to everything!

Room Tip: This is a hostel. The room experience is dependent on who you are sharing with!

The Lights has a great location, delicious (and cheap) meals, friendly staff, clean facilities, and an extra buffer of privacy in their dormitories. It’s an easy walk to and from the beaches - and if you want to go to a beach further from the city, like Nerja, you could take a city bus as well. The city itself is very walkable and the hostel is located in the old city so any pleasant sites you’d like to see are readily available. If you are looking to make most of your meals, there is both a supermarket and an open air market that begins early everyday with fresh fruit and that mornings catch in view the moment you step out the door. In the evenings, dinner is served at 9:00 in generous portions for €3 and can be made vegetarian upon request in most instances. Coffee and tea are free and breakfast is €1.5, but is scant being just cereal and toast with jams and butter. That’s more reflective of Spanish eating norms rather than the hostel itself, just don’t expect the continental breakfast going in. Every member of the staff is friendly and put much effort into getting to know you - and helping you in any task, question, or problem you may have. The kitchen is spacious and very clean as well as all the bathrooms and showers. The dorms (at least the mixed one) is well kept too. The bunks are sturdy and not like most hostel beds that are rickety steel frames. They are wooden and do not creak or rock much when your bunk mate comes in at night. However if your window is open, you will here the full noise of the night whether it be people out on the town or loud motorbikes. For each bed there are curtains separating you from the rest of the room if you wish, an amenity that more hostels should have. My only complaint is that the common areas are either not easily accessible or crowded with furniture in a way that inhibit natural socialization. The main area is dominated by a table with many seats, but in a way that is too crowded. The other spaces are in a separate room that is seldom used or adjacent to the main table, but hidden under support beams and a sloping roof that even the shortest must duck under. There is also a publicly accessible computer though if you need to access the internet during your stay. Overall a great hostel and great experience!

My daughter and I stayed at the Lights Hostel for 2 nights. We shared a double room with our own ensuite. The room was decorated in a modern and minimal style and had very efficient air conditioning - essential as the temperate was reaching 30 degrees outside. Great location near to the Food Market and easy walk to the Marina, the Cathedral, etc. Free Sangria, walking tours and a roof terrace were the draw that made me book here - but we had started our holiday in Malaga and had explored the city on foot already. If we hadn't done that we would have joined the tour. We didn't get to the roof terrace - we had run out of energy exploring other parts of Spain! It was good to have a hair dryer provided and that we could hire beach towels. Staff were welcoming and efficient. Would recommend this hostel and encourage everyone to take full advantage of all that's offered.

I stayed in Malaga only one night and as a traveling student, needed a budget place to stay. This hostel suited my needs just right. I had booked for two nights, but sadly, due to a missed flight, was only able to be there for a night. It was very comfortable accommodation though. They had a good community kitchen and common area, with free tea and coffee available, a necessary quality for a good hostel. Additionally, I went up to the rooftop terrace for my breakfast, which was very pleasant and had a decent view. The staff were not overly friendly, but they were pleasant enough. I had no issues and if someone is looking for a budget but decent hostel, I would certainly recommend this one.

I stayed in a female dorm, with balcony. Loved it. The beds are really comfy, and there are curtains for privacy.
Only one outlet for charging phone or laptop in you bed, could be practical with two.. Anyways, loved the place, nice common areas, kitchen, cheap breakfast (1,5 Euros) and dinners (3 Euros) etc.. The staff is really accomodating and helpful.
