Approaching from across the Playa de la Caleta is a good way especially if one is looking for some good camera shots. Entry gives one a good idea about how confined the fortress might have been during numerous conflicts. Views from the battlements over the sea and town were good. My only regret was that I was not there for sunset which I feel could be spectacular.

You can walk to this quite easily and in the way there you walk through beautiful gardens. Worth a visit.

This has been around forever but it was cool to walk out and look at it. I was surprised to see a modern art gallery in one of the buildings but don't miss the little chapel. Wish the walls could talk.

Cadiz is a charming place and a walk along the waterfront will bring you to Castillo Santa Catalina. It’s an interesting place and offers a lively view over the water.

Castillo de Santa Catalina is a star shaped fortress built in the 16/17th century after an Anglo-Dutch force attacked and sacked the city of Cadiz. The castle is a nice architectural example of a naval defence fort. Inside is preserved much of the Andalusian architectural style of the Church, courtyards and fort buildings.

There's several exhibitions within the fortress. Sadly there's very little information in English. The exhibitions seem to be about the Police, Navy, basically local stuff. Oddly, there doesn't seem to have much information about the castle itself. As the entrance is free, can't complain too much.
