Nestled in a Roman amphitheatre. Visted this before we went to Medinat al Zahra.

“Pleasant museum”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

This is a new and attractively laid out museum which gives you a good idea of the various phases of Cordoba's history. It was almost deserted when I went there. At the lower level there is an archaeological site.

“A model of what this sort of museum should be”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

This is a relatively small, but outstanding museum, housed in a swish new building with the remains of Roman Theatre in the basement (not the villa depicted on the photos on this page). It's locally focused - all the artefacts have Cordoba connection - but tells the story of this historically crucial city in a wider context. Unlike so many such museums, you don't feel swamped by information or objects - you can give attention to everything, and still get around the museum in 1.5hrs. The labelling is outstanding with plenty of multimedia content. Better still, it's free to EU passport holders - and open until 8.30pm, neatly filling in the dead time before the restaurants open.

“Built on top of a Roman Theatre”
Reviewed 27 October 2011

Good presentation of the history of Cordoba with very valuable displays from different historical periods.
I was impressed by the fact that the museum is built on top of the excavations of the old Roman Theatre, with even a 3-D video reconstruction as explanation.
It is free to EU citizens so I did not have to pay.
