When we arrived there was no-one at reception but a complicated method of phoning for a code which then released the key. This could be difficult if you found it hard to receive a German telephone call. After that first afternoon the reception desk was manned. The hotel is a large house converted into a B&B. It is very clean and attractive. The breakfast was fine, nothing special for Germany. We could park at the hotel. It is in a good location, very near to the old centre. My booking reference told me that this was free but the management tried to charge me.

Room 2.8 was great - very spacious and had all the amenities we required. Wi-fi reasonably stable - unlike some of the other hotels we'd stayed in in Germany. Good breakfast - fruit not marvellous and rolls not wholemeal - but coffee, muesli and bacon excellent!

Room tip: Our room 2.8 was excellent.

We had a one night stay while visiting the night markets, the Amalia Library, and the Bauhaus museum

PROS:
Grand old building
Free parking if you’re early
Quiet neighbourhood with elegant buildings
10 – 15 minute walk to town centre
Bedroom 2.2 on the first floor has twin single beds, is quite spacious with period furniture and has a large balcony with chairs overlooking the street. The bed was comfortable and spacious.
CONS:
The hot food supply at breakfast was sparing or non-existent; perhaps our lack of conversational German prevented us asking for more
Wi fi was extremely erratic and unreliable.
The towels we were given smelled musty and could have done with a good wash

General Comment: This is more a B & B than a hotel. Reception closed at 4 pm on the day of our arrival (28 December)

Room tip: Request a room with good wi fi connectivity if you are reliant on a free service

We stayed 3 nights and found the accommodation to be excellent, as was the service and breakfast. The facilities are those of a B&B more than an hotel but I say that to inform and not as a complaint. If you plan to be out most of the time as we were then this is fine but there are no public areas where you can sit other than a couple of seats in reception. My sister is disabled and I added her to our booking some time after ours. I did not check disabled access. There is no lift, and reception is on the first floor so she struggled a bit.
The receptionist was particularly helpful in making suggestions and restaurant bookings on our behalf and we would certainly stay again.

Nice, quiet location but within a 15 minutes walk of the city centre. Also free parking as a bonus. Totally excellent breakfast and very helpful multi-lingual reception staff. But be warned: some of the bedrooms are rather small and thus are unsuitable for a longer visit or if you are one of those people who travel with 3 or 4 suitcases full of clothes you wear once.

Room tip: Book the most expensive room they have as the cheaper ones are small.
