We parked for free just outside the hotel. It is a well run place and the breakfast was good though not wonderful, as are some German breakfasts. It is near a good selection of restaurants and very near frequent tram services into the town centre. To walk to the Alexander Platz, the start of the centre would take about 20 min.

For a short one night trip to Leipzig, I booked the Markgraf in the Suedvorstadt area through Priceline. The area map on PL for Leipzig put everything close to the center as one area, although this hotel is located technically just south of the center. This turned out to be the best stroke of luck, because the Suedvorstadt area is one of the 'happening' areas in Leipzig, full of restaurants and bars that stay open late even on a Wednesday.

The hotel itself is quite basic. Everything is clean and work well, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Priceline rates the hotel as four star, despite the fact that it's a nice hotel, it really should be a three, because again the room is quite basic, and there is no air conditioning (not a problem for the day we were there).

But I really feel that although I could have spend the same amount of money at a newer hotel in the center of the city, the Markgraf really was a great stay in a vibrant neighborhood.

As with most european hotels...if its a 4 star hotel take 1 star off. This is a 2.5 star hotel at best. Rooms are small and no air-conditioning. The no air conditioning part is a deal breaker in the summer as the rooms often match the heat outside till 2 or 3 am. Its a 20 minute walk to centrum from the hotel. After 10pm there is no hotel staff onsite...only bad/cheap hotels do this. So if you check in after 10 you use a kiosk to check in and you cannot use use the internet till you talk to the desk staff the next day. The beds are ridiculous you get a double bed with a single beds blanket and a pillow thats stuffed with grass and dirt (feels like it)...breakfast in the morning is average at best. Yep there's free parking because its parking on the street. Will never stay again...

We ended up here because the traffic was crazy on the Autobahn and we need to sleep somewhere. Found a good rate for my family of 4. On the booking site it was rated 4 stars. However, it was a quite simple apartment that had been remade into a hotel room. It had two rooms, which was great. But there was barely an elevator. You had to walk one flight up to reach a small elevator and then walk up an additional flight to come to the room. No problems without luggage, but with several heavy suitcases it was kind of tough. The wifi signal was poor. The room was very clean. We did not have breakfast, but it looked really good. It is ok, but nothing you would remember...Sort of an emergency try of hotel. Leipzig was kind of dirty and run down...

Ideally located only a few minutes away from city center we have experienced one of the friendliest welcomes ever! The rooms were very tidy and spacious! Special thanks goes out to the beautifully French speaking young lady from east Poland with the brightest smile even when working next morning at six AM after New Year's Eve!
