I visited Chemnitz due to an outdoor performance by the German band Revolverheld in late August. I booked Hotel and der Oper because it was across the street from the venue -- Theaterplatz -- and because it had good reviews on TA. I was very happy with my stay.
I reserved a single room. The room itself was small but spotless. Furnishings, mattress, bedding, and bathroom were all fine. The small package of gummy Schlaf Schäfchen (sleep sheep) on the pillow in my room was a nice whimsical German touch. The view from my top-story room? Stunning. It alone was worth the price of the room and looked directly onto Theaterplatz. There were large windows that opened completely, offering an even better view and great appreciation of sound. I was able to watch (and hear) Revolverheld's sound check. How cool is that? I could have watched the concert from my room if I wanted to do so.
Hotel staff were great. The breakfast buffet had good variety. Location is excellent. There are many restaurants and much to see within walking distance of the hotel. The train station is also a short walk from the hotel. I would like to come back and explore Chemnitz some more some day; I will almost certainly stay at Hotel an der Oper when I do that.More
