Villa Saskal is one of the most beautiful properties I have ever experienced. Some friends and I stayed there over Christmas and it greatly exceeded our expectations. El Cuyo is a colourful and friendly fishing town just a short walk along the beach away from the villa where we were able to get everything we needed for a comfortable stay (including freshly caught fish, limes, avocados, cilantro, tortillas, beer, tequila etc).
The house is huge and is situated on a gorgeous stretch of white sand beach that is literally at your doorstep. Some days we had kilometres of beach and ocean to ourselves. It was an ideal spot to chill on the beach with a book, make authentic fresh Mexican meals, and party into the night. It would also be ideal for families and is very kid friendly.
The owner, Matias, is awesome and was there to greet us on arrival/show us around. He was also excellent at arranging everything prior to our arrival and accommodating our requests. He arranged a private driver to pick us up at the airport when we arrived and also one to take us to Tulum at the end of our stay.
A few things to be prepared for: 1) Mosquito hour at dawn and dusk. The bugs get really thick around these times and we ended up going through a ton of bug spray (which can be purchased at the pharmacia in town). Even still, some of us got quite a few bug bites. 2) We went through more potable water than was provided to us. It wasn't really a problem though - 20L of drinking water could be purchased in the town for the equivalent of a few Canadian dollars. Luckily we met friends living beside us who had a car to transport this back for us.
I can't say enough about this property - it really is a hidden gem. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful house with endless stretches of beach at your doorstep then you really don't need to look any further. Villa Saskal puts any resort to shame. This will likely be a property that I return to again and again.
