We visited for Köln v Hannover. Sitting in the south stand block S16. Navigating from Düsseldorf was fairly easy and only had to ask the locals for directions once. There's a special train that runs to the stadium from Cologne , match ticket includes travel on this. The stadium looked a bit industrial from outside and the queues were huge, but moved along very fast. Just under 49k attendence was impressive for a team bottom of the league. The atmosphere in the ground was fantastic, and miles better than most you see in England. You can also spend cash in the ground rather than loading a prepay card like at other bundesliga grounds. Keep your eyes out for the beer man doing the rounds, saves missing any of the game.

FC Köln is one of the original 16 clubs establishing Bundesliga in 1963. The club has a bold history and it shows in the stadium. FC Köln is at risk of relegation this season, yet the fans keep supporting their team. Great atmosphere in the 50k seating stadium. The stadium is a bit further away from downtown but easily and freely accessible with public transportation.

Although Koln are not doing too well this season, you wouldn't be able to tell judging by the size of the crowd or support. Another fine example of where Germany does everything right for the football fan whether a die hard or visitor.

Free tram from the city centre took about 15-20 minutes. The stadium itself sticks out like a factory, really nice but has an industrial feel about it.

We were sat in the corner of the ground on one of the side stands, right at the front of the tier above the away fans. Great to see a mixture of fans together above the away stand and of course, no trouble.

Took about 10 minutes to get in as we got there about 30/40 mins before kick off.

Our tickets cost about 35 euros, which i thought was fair for a top level game in a stand to the side. The view was very good and I get the impression you would really struggle to find a bad view in the ground.

Book tickets online early as the seats sell quickly, buying online is also very straight forward.

There is simply no place in germany to watch a soccer Match that matches the Atmosphere of Rheinenergiestadion. Colognes Supporters are amongst the most passionate out there. Dortmund may be bigger, but Cologne is the real deal!
