I suspect most people visit Aachen for the legacy of Charlemagne. Those who don't mind more recent history will be pleased to see this museum. It has many fine style rooms, in what were originally three buildings. One of those is the old apothecary. Two other rooms have old tiles all around, blue, brown, and other colours. Most rooms have paintings, and many have some old religious items like chalices from the 17th century. One room has a nice collection of viewing boxes, and there are more such curioties in the other rooms. There is also quite a bit of porcelain in several places, and also a collection of Japanese sword ornaments. Altogether a varied collection that surely has something for almost everyone.
