A lovely place to stop as you come of the ship, grab a coffee and cake and let the crowds move on. Was busy but served promptly.

We got off our cruise ship and immediately looked for an information center. This was SO much more. There were many, many postcards and guidebooks and an enormous area with all manner of souvenirs to buy- local foods, gadgets and clothing and mementos of every kind. I saw that there was a cafeteria area where you pretty much serve yourself and pay at the cashier. I had a huge piece of tender apple-rhubarbe coffee cake and for pennies more, all the freshlly house made whipped cream I wanted to pile on. There was an espresso and a cappucino- all for 7 euros. It was the most delicious cake I have ever eaten. They offered more substantial fare as well: smoked sausage and tomato soup, Breaded veal scallop, herring or fried fish on a fresh bun, and all kinds of fresh vegetables. You could eat inside or outside at picnic tables. There was a playground for little children with sand to play in, a slide, things to climb. Families would come to watch the boats.

Stopped here since we were at port, didn't eat at the cafeteria but bought amazing jams! The passion fruit and rhubarb strawberry jam were the best!

The charm of this place is that it is at the pier and you can watch the cruise ships. A cafeteria style German restaurant is attached to the gift shop featuring all thing strawberry. You have limited food choices that you buy by weight. You can sit either in or out and enjoy the views of the main channel leading from The Baltic to Rostock. Unfortunately, food is just average but no expensive. In summer you can buy delicious strawberries.

A restaurant attached to a shop or vice versa Karls has everything you could want if you like strawberry's... from crockery to jams and drinks.

The canteen style restaurant in the back however is what drew us in. A salad bar and schnitzel (pork cutlet with breadcrumb) with all the accompaniments you cold need such as bratkartoffeln mit speck (fried potatoes with bacon pieces) and Jaeger sauce (mushroom sauce). Interestingly you're charged by weight rather than by items. So you can get a portion as big or as little as you like without feeling like you've overpaid.

The food is fresh (schnitzel was fresh out the frier when I arrived) and tasty. As good as any beer hall!
