I'm from Northern Germany myself. What I mean with "Northern friendliness" is: People indeed *are* treating guests heartily, but they don't talk much. Winds are rough. Nobody opens their mouth unnecessarily.
The food was excellent but unfortunately (Sunday lunch) the restaurant was understaffed, thus the service was a bit poor. People were nice, but in a hurry and still being served took a long time. The food made up for it, totaling in a "very good" rating.
I bet in Summer it's bustling with activity and plenty of student staff resulting in better service :-)
