“A very mixed bag - overpriced for what you get”

There's no doubt this is the place to stay for the view over the harbour, and if you are planning to get up for the Fishmarkt on Sunday morning. You need to know however that this is not a very cosy or friendly place to stay because it is on two or three sites in a complex, and you quickly get fed up with the slog up a steep flight of steps from the metro station. If you are put in the Tower part of the hotel, be prepared to compete with the public for the lift up to your room at happy hour (they are all going to the Cocktail bar on the 11th bar, and the noise from the lift continues until the early hours), plus there's the noise from the U-bahn below (but they supply ear-plugs so that's ok!). The breakfast is a ridiculous 18 euros, so don't pay it, and go to a local cafe where you can eat your full for less than 5.
This hotel felt like a train station. The staff were smiley, but honestly I wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: Don't accept a room in the Tower unless you are going to be out until very late every night - th...

Great location right near the Landungsbrucken Hafen and subway station, just 25 min from airport. Breakfast buffet was awesome with huge selection. But it is an extra EUR 18... room was rather small, bathroom newly updated. no wireless in room, just lan... Overall this hotel could use some updating. Price was ok considering the location.

What is known to be a legend in Hamburg needs a serious overhaul and more friendly staff. I was in Hamburg for 4 days and we held our company meeting at the Hotel Hafen Hamburg as well. Apparently I got a decent room (40217) because most of my colleagues (19) were complaining about the fact that the rooms were to small and not comfortable enough. Yes, my room was a bit small but still OK for the single traveller. The only down side was that the bath room had no shower curtain and water went every where. Kind of a hazard, especially with a slippery floor. The Minibar was very equipped. What I found annoying were the very high charges for Parking (14 EUR / day), the price of a bottle of water (5.00 EUR) and the very unfriendly staff on the Front Desk and the gentlemen behind the bar. On the other hand, I found the breakfast really amazing as it was typical german with lots of good stuff and a great variety of all what hungry jack requires. As mentioned before, we held our Company Meeting there for 2 full days and I found the service very good. Catering staff was very attentive and the lunch and afternoon snacks ( Apple Crumble Cake) were amazing and very tasty. The Meeting room was spacious and clean. If I would know that we would get a good room for a decent rate, I would probably come back because Hotel Hafen Hamburg is located right in the middle of everything and so close to all the entertainment and the sights and sounds of Hamburg. It is a hit and miss, I believe.

Stayed on business for 1 night and glad it wasn't longer. It is possible I got a terrible room - I was offered a double below the restaurant instead of the single that had been booked. Given I was literally sleeping there the dingyness didn't bother me, but it was too warm (in september) and noisy - always a bad sign when the hotel provides complimentary ear plugs. Breakfast wasn't what I'd expect of a 4* either , with no hot option, eggs etc. It took 20 mins before anyone offered me coffee.

So it was clean and servicable for 1 night, but nothing more than that.
