Description: Seit November 2012 mit zwei Sternen ausgezeichnet, ist das Gourmetrestaurant "Seven Seas" das Herzstuck des Sullberg-Ensembles.

Can this establishment really be as good as it's reputation? There is only one way to find out so I invited my wife for our anniversary dinner and was very pleased with the evening. The quality of the service, food, vines and ambiance was perfect. Extremely sedate. However, our resultant resume was "Been there done that". The price was over the top compared to very good restaurants in London, New York, Hong Kong and also other excellent restaurants in Hamburg. Our preference is a little less pricey and a lot more "Begeisterung". [Over the top inspiration or enthusiasm. The wow factor.]

It was a nice July night in Hamburg. The location was nice, the food beat expectations and the service was spoiling. Congratulations to the whole team.

This restaurant is truly worth the 2 ** Michelin stars that it is given.
And the award as Europes finest!
Everything is masterclass. It lies on the top overseeing Elbe, lots of trees and flowers and with old historic buildings.
We were blessed with sunny weather making us start with a glass of champagne at the terrace. Fantastic.
The food is top of the class and a feast for the eye.
The restaurant chef Maximilium was paying us all the attention we needed and giving us all the privacy we desired. His knowledge of the food and the wine was unbelievable! A true master of the Floor!!

We had the full menu, but Karlheinz wasn't there.
This only proofs that his staff is quit capable of representing him within his dishes.
Great dishes, I loved the Foie gras and the sea bars.
Service was gentel, professional and upmost kind.
Karlheinz I will be back.

There are two highly rated restaurants close to Blankenese: Seven Seas and Jacobs. Menus range from 89 to 149+ Euro. We selected Seven Seas for a 90th birthday celebration as we stayed at the Süllberg Hotel of which Seven Seas is one of the restaurants. Before starting on this review I'd like to mention that we all have traveled widely and have eaten in very expensive and also very good restaurants before - one not being necessary equivalent with the other. Seven Seas was for all of us a quite unique experience. Unfortunately not such as good one as others appear to have had when looking at past reviews.

The restaurant has a very good reputation and also Michelin stars and many who eat here might be delighted. Each of the dishes is a work of art in itself. Each combines a wide range of tastes, textures and ingredients and the 5 to 8 dishes per menu plus the two pre-diner appetizers combine to a nicely measured meal. In addition the staff is very helpful, polite and attentive to every diner's well being and need. The wine list and selection is excellent.

Based on this assessment you may ask why this review does only give two points?

This review does provide such a harsh judgement, because it is our opinion that in trying to reach the pinnacle of beautiful and sophisticated dishes the overall harmony of natural tastes was completely lost. Every part of every dish is modified, changed, "improved". Tastes and textures are mixed to a degree that it is nearly impossible to find the original taste of what is indicated in the menu. In addition it is unfortunate that the tastes from one dish do not lead over to the tastes of the next. This could in such instance have developed into a rounded and exceptional epicurean experience. No, instead each dish stands and remains on it's own, next and not with each other.

We are sure that some or even many past and future guests of Seven Seas will not agree with our review. We are equally sure that many will understand our concerns and will agree. Our review is therefore intended more as a warning for those, who think that they might find here a meal of what we'd like to call "of french tradition", meaning ingredients cooked to perfection for their own taste, refined, but also retained and combined to a meal of flavors, an experience from start to finish and as a whole. For those who seek such experience we would suggest: look somewhere else. For those there are a number of less sophisticated restaurants down at the water front, which we could highly recommend.
