Very cool boutique hotel in an excellent location - about 150m to the tram stop and while the neighbourhood is residential (and therefore quiet) there are heaps of bars & restaurants in close walking distance. Staff were efficient and polite. Room was clean and very well maintained. Would definitely stay here again.

The Ackselhaus is located in Prenzlauerberg.
It consists of 2 private apartment buildings that have kept some of the old features and has been converted into a hotel with new updates. One of the building’s design goes by themes like: Beach, Safari, China etc and the other one does not have any specific themes but a lot of attention is given to design details and carefully selected and curated art. It has a very intimate feel, beautiful backyards and a lot of thought, creativity, attention and imagination is put throughout. But for someone who’s looking for a big hotel services - this is definitely not the place. The reception office is only open at office hours, the restaurant is only open for breakfast, and also no air condition which we found to be a big minus.
Around the hotel there are a lot of restaurants, and getting to the centre is easy.

We visited the ackselhaus over Whitsunday weekend and stayed three nights. This is a unique and very pretty boutique hotel. Every room is specially decorated with furniture and other items that the owner collected while traveling. Our room was the beautiful Strandhaus (beach house). The location of the hotel is in the cool Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood, which offers plenty of good restaurants and interesting shops. The hotel is quite close to Alexanderplatz, and public transportation is easy by tram. Guests have breakfast at a nice cafe that is two doors over on the same street. (The cafe only opens for breakfast.)

My only qualm with ackselhaus is that they would only take payment in cash. Who carries hundreds of Euros in cash nowadays?? The receptionist argued that they could offer a lower price because they wouldn’t have to include credit card fees in their calculation. What they forget is that foreign visitors have to exchange currency into EUR bank notes, where transaction fees are much higher than on a credit card.
