“Great find”
Reviewed 19 February 2012

Thank you tripadvisor for telling us about this gem. We missed the pear on the menu that was raved about and kicked ourselves when we saw the couple next to us had ordered it. I had the wild boar which was tender and full of flavour. Apple strudel was good too. 2 courses each with drinks €40. Well worth it.

“Good food, good value and good location”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

A good little restaurant situated just off the attractive Nikolaikirchplatz which has a few interesting shops and a fine old fashioned Berlin pub in “Zum Nussbaum” just opposite the church and barely a 10 minute walk from Alexanderplatz. Great vaulted interior with a warm and inviting atmosphere (it was minus 14 outside!) We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were both polite and attentive. An ample choice of German beers and wines complimented an interesting and varied Berlin menu. Tasty and hearty food which was just perfect on a cold winter’s night. Tried the pear starter as mentioned by a previous reviewer and was also pleasantly surprised – it shouldn’t work but it does! If you like to try local cuisine then this restaurant is a must. Good value for money and only wish we had more time for a return visit. Make sure you go hungry because the portions are big!

“I really liked the cozy atmosphere, vaulted ceilings, and bubble windows.”
Reviewed 26 January 2012

Aside from the dining area on the ground level, apparently they also have a gentleman's hall upstairs. Not sure what that entails, as it was roped off. Anyways, it's really interesting to eat in historical settings, in this case a former courthouse. The menu begins with an introduction to the history of the place..I remember some mention along the lines of people being sequestered outside, beaten, and spat on. Oh dear..

The service is brusque. Foodwise, the portions are large, and the food is hearty. The potato soup with bacon was really good, and I enjoyed the berry pudding for dessert. Dining partner was satisfied with her large salad.

The coasters were oval-shaped rather than round. Curious. The waitress also blatantly put the used coasters back in the holder..lol.

“Good choice for good food near Radisson Blu”
Reviewed 26 January 2012

A smallish place, which I ate at early evening. I like that you could get a meal before the usual dinner hour. The food seemed much better than the typical fast food German heavy-on-fried-food restaurants that surround the Radisson Blu. To get here you cross through the Marx-Lenin square and enter the historic area. It's right by Nikolaivertel. I had excellent pork in salt brind (which wasn't salty tasting at all) and cabbage along with dumpling. Also a good sparkling Riesling. The restaurant was unpretentious, just people enjoying beer in a German pub sort of atmosphere. The waitress was matter-of-fact and when I asked if the riesling was good, she huffed "riesling is riesling." She was also unhelpful about the meal, but I attributed that to cultural differences and part of the "atmosphere" of an authentic pub.

“Good Germen restaurant”
Reviewed 22 January 2012

We found this restaurant through Tripadvisor’s review. Please note that the restaurant is only the downstairs part of the building, not the whole building. You may need to book a table if you are eating on Friday and Saturday. An old restaurant rebuilt during 1980s, in what was then, the East Germany. It is in a tourist place, but the food was still authentically German. The portions of the food were very large and generous, so you may not need any starter.
