We stayed at the Torbrau for Sylvester. This hotel was excellent in its customer service, cleanliness, comfort, location and breakfasts. We would definitely stay here again.

Our family of 6 stayed here in 2 rooms for 2 nights from 26th December, 2011. The rooms were lovely, bathrooms especially spacious. The staff here were exceptional - definitely the friendliest and most helpful we had encountered on our German/ Austrian holiday so far. The Hotel itself is in a great central area for shopping, sightseeing, parks, museums, etc. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, even dragging our 4 and 5 year olds along as well without too many complaintsl. We should make a special mention of the staff of the hotel restaurant. The food was exceptional and the incredible staff were so accommodating. It is quite a classy establishment that doesn't seem to be set up for young children but they were so friendly and lovely with our littlies and made them feel very welcome, unlike many other restaurants and cafes we had been to in the previous fortnight of travelling around Europe. Top notch food and staff. The hotel itself is beautiful, both inside and out.

We spent Christmas in Munich and chose the Hotel Torbrau for its location, but we also got great staff and value, too. Next to the elaborate Isartor city gate and just down the street from the Marienplatz (central plaza), the hotel is convenient for shopping, sight-seeing and just toodling around on foot, enjoying the architecture and winding streets of the old city. The staff are multi-lingual, friendly and helpful (especially Andreas, on the front desk, who's a real professional with heart). The room rate includes an elaborate breakfast buffet, including fresh fruit and juices, yogurt, cereal, toast, sweet and plain rolls, meats, cheeses and a choice of eggs cooked-to-order. The big holiday meal in Bavaria is Christmas Eve, and it's difficult to find a restaurant open. The Torbrau served an appetizing five-course dinner of local dishes and was kind enough to recommend we make a reservation before we left home, so we'd be assured of a table. Good thing we did, because we could see hungry tourists wandering by outside the window, hoping for something, anything to eat. Our room was spacious, the hair drier and other bathroom supplies better than average, and the staff had an iron and ironing board waiting in the room when we arrived in response to a query before our arrival. For us, the beds seemed a bit soft, but that's a matter of personal preference. We had the sense that there was nothing the staff wouldn't do for us, if it was in their power -- housekeeping, bar and restaurant, front desk, they all made our stay a happy and productive one.

Room Tip: It's a city hotel, so rooms away from the front are quieter.

My family and I stayed at the Hotel Torbau for one night before leaving Munich to return home. We'd already been in the city for a few days earlier in the week and were just returning from Salzburg for the night to catch our train the next day. Here are the highlights of our stay:

+ extremely friendly hotel staff at reception (warm greeting, took care of our luggage, made dinner reservations, basically did anything we asked)
+ reception went above and beyond--we were leaving too early to eat the hotel breakfast the next morning so they offered to pack us up a breakfast and it was delicious--sandwich, hard boiled egg, OJ, fruit cup, and a granola bar :-)
+ clean room with big closet
+ complimentary water bottles (a nice touch!)
+ the breakfast buffet was elaborate and delicious (super fresh fruit and a bit of a different selection from usual European breakfasts)
+ great shower pressure, water didn't get all over the floor
+ good location for visiting the old town as well as the Deutsche Museum, also within walking distance of good restaurants
+ staff at the hotel bar/restaurant were attentive and friendly

- beds need more than one pillow per person
- the room decor reminded me of the American TV show Full House--a little too early '90s, needs updating (but who really cares if it's clean, comfortable, and doesn't give you the heebie jeebies)
- not near the train station (maybe if you have a little suitcase you could walk, but it's not a 5 min trip)

This Hotel as amazing amazing location, so if you are going on a short trip this is the place to stay, the breakfast buffet was good, they make you fired, scrambled eggs on request, a lot of people don't see the sign, and they have amazing waffles be sure to take some. The receptionists are all very helpful and welcoming, and they put a fruit basket that is a great idea, they give us 2 complimentary bottles of water and they leave candy on your pillow which is a nice touch. The problem was in the parking, the site said that it has available parking, we parked one day and could not find a spot for the next 2 days, and had to drive around the whole area for an hour to find a spot, just know that on a weekend you won't find a spot because it is limited. Although we were a couple we could only find a room with twin beds and the beds were really small, I expected more in a 4 star Hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a couple check the beds !
