The Drei Lowen, which is a block at most from the outer exit of Munich's Hauptbahnhof, is somewhat of a gem in this busy, multi-ethnic, transit hub area of the city.
Walking to the hotel one sees lots of jewelry shops, bars, even a girlie bar, along with restaurants, etc. Streets are busy (later in day - quiet before noon).
Don't let the scene throw you off though. Entering the hotel is quite a change and the room we had was a very good base for our 4 night stay in Munich. We liked the bed, the size of the bathroom, and the cleanliness. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
We came to appreciate the easy access to Hbf and the S, U, bus, or tram options which were literally a couple of minutes away. Across the street were 2 stores - C&A for cheap and useable travel clothing we needed in an unexpected heat wave - and Karlstadt Dept Store which was a great find for its basement food store (esp water and drinks!).
If travel links are important, and clean, safe room important - this is a good option.
Note: AC was NOT working on 5th floor but we were given a large fan which probably was far better than AC. Stay was saved! More
