This is a 300 year old building with wonderful rooms and crazy wallpaper! The downtown location cannot be beat. We stayed on the second floor in a very large room. The staff even checked on us after we got settled to make sure we were okay. The only negative was the breakfast. You order breakfast instead of helping yourself. The food was good, just limiting. Otherwise I would give the hotel an excellent rating. Be sure to call the hotel if you need to park your car, they will direct you.

The hotel is located on a very attractive street in Bayreuth, a few steps from the stunning Margravial opera house, which is open for public tours. The hotel itself is a grand, traditional stone building. The interiors in the hallway, landing and restaurant/breakfast rooms all retain their vintage appearance, with beautiful wood panelling, antique furnishings and references to famous former guests of the hotel.

The hotel has been run by the same family for generations. The owner and staff give a very personal and attentive service, and take pride in the hotel and its history. We even received a lovely birthday gift on behalf of the hotel during our stay.

The breakfasts are cooked freshly to order. The evening meal menu was very flexible in adjusting to our needs and we enjoyed meeting the chef to discuss our order. Both the breakfast room and restaurant are lovely and charming rooms.

Our bedroom was a good size. We very much liked the traditional and colourful furnishings and fabrics.

The hotel feels very much a part of Bayreuth and the town's identity.

Perhaps once this hotel was a respectable place to stay but now it is stuck in the 1960’s without any charm. During the opera season the prices are so high that we had expected a polished and well run hotel. It failed to live up to our expectation in every respect. A three course set dinner menu costs €79 per person yet the food was no better than British pub food. The shower in our bathroom provided either cold or very hot water and nothing in between and the shower head was clogged so that it was impossible even to have a proper cold shower. In the bathroom of another member of our party there was a naked light bulb above the shower. We could go on endlessly listing this hotel’s failings but perhaps most important is the fact that this hotel has no smoke detectors, no fire doors, no fire alarm system and no marked fire exits. We would struggle to give it more than one star.

This centuries-old family run hotel is steeped in tradition. A place to bask in the elegance and charm of the lovely decor. Attention to detail, fine dining and outstanding service make this a little gem of a hotel you will want to return to. About a 20 minute walk to the Bayreuth Wagner Festival.

The hotel was clean and well kept. Breakfast was very good and the staff were very helpful and kind. My German is not very good but they all spoke to me in fluent German. I would definitely stop here again if I was in Bayreuth. It is close to most tourist sites and the centre of town.
