You're dead right in the town center but it's quiet and intimate. You have an option to get airconditioned room - a must during summer months in our changing climate. You have excellent personal service, and even if you're arriving early you have a chance to get your room upon arrival without additional charge (not a common feature these days)! You have an option to gain some weight (if desirable of course) during nice breakfast in the morning. Finally, the prices aren't cheap but reasonable.

Gasthaus Hotel Backmulde was the perfect place for our five-day visit to Heidelberg. Though just steps from the main street, our room was quiet and comfortable. There is a lift up to the 2nd floor (if your room is on the 3rd floor, you have to walk up one flight).

The breakfast was exceptional with a large variety of fresh fruit, cheeses, cold cuts, rolls, cereals, yogurt, and much more. Beverages included juice, tea, coffee, and cappuccino to order. We never got bored with the breakfast, even after five days.

This is a charming and well-located hotel which I can happily recommend.

Room Tip: We had a nice view of the church tower at night from room 30 on the 3rd floor (lift goes only as far as 2nd floor).

Centrally located with a family owned flavor (but not sure that's the case). Staff is helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast buffet is excellent with fresh food. When the restaurant is open, concierge moves to restaurant (internally accessible). I would come back.

We went for a gourmet dinner on our 29-year wedding anniversary. We sat outside i the backyard which also was at parking area. The waiter was polite and seemed a little insecure. But he contributed to the idea of an romantic evening a la Lady and the Tramp. The restaurant gave us a small dish with olives and bread on the house. The starters we selected, surprised us positively. So did the main course and the dessert. The coffee was at bit strong. All in all a nice romantic evening with good food, wine and service. Had the settings been more private and the waiter more experienced it would have been close to a gourmet dinner.

This hotel is nestled in the old town of Heidelberg in Schiffgasse. About a 2 minute walk from the Hauptstrasse. The room was medium sized and the bed was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and modern. This room had a shower cubicle only but as this is an old building every room is slightly different in size and design. The breakfast was included in the price and was excellent with cooked or continental options. There was no coffee making facilities in the room but a comfortable Lobby where you could make cups of tea and coffee and take to your room. There is a small courtyard car park at the hotel which only costs 10 euros per day. There are many car parks in the vicinity if there are no spaces. Overall a lovely comfortable stay.
