“Terrible”

Museum fur Neue Kunst

I love modern art and I love small museums. This place was a huge disappointment. The staff were unhelpful. There was only one themed exhibit on to see - about death. Most of it was audio visual. There was little variety. The best thing about it is was the building itself and its lovely staircase. There are many other museums to see in town.

We where there on a Sunday afternoon with a 5 year old child. They get a first impression of the museum while looking at some paintings. After going trough 3 rooms the group moved in the atelier, there the kids could do some painting on three stations. Everything is very well organized. You can just step in and there is no need to be prepared especially. The time in the 'classic' museum and the time for the kids when they could be active is well balanced, the group was calm and the atmosphere was very nice.

We did not visited the other parts of the museum, so this review is exclusively for the family afternoon.

Its a good space for exhibiting, but pot luck as to whether there is something on worth seeing when you go. When we went it wasn't that great - a few intriguing exhibits, but on the whole not particularly worth the visit. However a museum pass is only a few euros for the day and covers about 6 or 7 museums in the town so its worth a quick look.

We entered the museum on a Sunday. Very inviting small museum. They had just opened a special exhibition for Herbert Meier including his incredible collection of 500 watercolors. The same 7 euro ticket was valid for other museums as well.

Located within the old town, the museum has a small modern and contemporary art collection. However, it makes up for it by mounting interesting special exhibits, like the current "Istanbul-Freiburg" show (which by the way, also depicts the lack of freedom in Turkey).
